I use a 401 on mine but I'd perhaps not use a 9257. I was advised that it was really too small for a 500. As such my 500 has a 9254 and my 600 a DS620.

Had a feeling it would be too small,i will get him to order some gears for his full size servo

S9257 is too small for a 600, the S9254 works fine, as would a DS610, if he's not flying it like you Nick.

If he's got a 450, that's the best place to stick the 9257!

a 450 is just the right size for this servo. I wouldn't use it on a 600, no matter the flying style. It will burn out, and then it's 3D time, like it or not.

I've used a 610 on rudder in my 600 for a while.
It worked surprisingly well, but it's totally against conventional wisdom. No one knows, how long it would last, and I replaced it.

I use full size servos on anything bigger than a 500, and for the tail the best you can afford, that way you only buy once and not upgrade after a while.
