  • GV-1, should I keep it or ?

I have a Futaba GV-1 which is currently mounted on a heli but I have not yet used it and I downloaded a manual and at first glance it is laid out very differently to the other governors I am somewhat used to (revlock 10 and TJpro).

So is there anything about the GV-1 that would make it worth keeping really?
(I know it has a mix control function but I doubt I would use that)

It looks like the way it is setup to switch speeds and turn on and off etc. is not really ideal for the DX-7 TX.

I am inclined to go with something I already know and just put another TJ pro on there.

    Hi trillian

    I have a GV-1 + stator Gator on a gasser with my DX7

This is an excellent combo and doesn't require a tach to achieve an accurate head speed.

    Enter gear ratio

    required speed

    Bingo (well nearly)

Let me know what you are putting it on and we can get it setup .

depends on your flying style really. Its a reactive governor with quite long averaging.

in short... it means it needs to see the headspeed drop with several successive low rpm signals before it will open the throttle. Modern stuff either watches the throttle signal from the tx to see load changes coming before they happen and work a lot faster.

So if your just cruising around the gv1 will do the job and can be setup almost exactly the same but if your hitting it hard then you will notice the headspeed changing a fair bit as the gv1 lags behind.

the setup of the gv1 looks complex but is actually pretty simple, you only need 1 channel.

Yepp great for gasser use .

Also running one on my Spectra G with a Stator Gator - works great.

There may be slightly better out there for Nitro use though.

          Gv1

My thoughts after using the GV1's for many years on various models.

Yes plus one on the gasser front. Ran one on my Radikal with the stator gator that Asid has too. Very good indeed especially when you go into the hidden menu and adjust the hidden parametres which improves the response for the gas engine.
This helps the response time that Ade is refering too as model two strokes, rather than petrol two strokes are higher reving and need a quicker response time from the governor.
The GV1 is a good unit albiet an old design by todays standards. For 3D type use other govenors are probably better, however for the gassres, general sport flying they are good, fit and forget. The plus side as Asid stated is enter your gear ratio and required head speed and bingo that's what you get.

          Hope this helps.

          Regards,

          Mark.

              Thanks for all your input.

It is currently mounted on a Robbe Futura with OS70 engine that I am setting up for F3C type flying.

I have not yet put governors on my gasser helis.

In my experience with the other Robbe with an OS70 and the Throttle Jocky Pro, it works very well but actually doesn't make a huge difference vs just running throttle curves.
