  • blade 400 tail servo

    Hi all...,

Just a quick question regarding the stock servo on my blade 400 tail...

after breaking my stock one, ive just bought a SAVOX SH0257MG to upgrade it.... Im hopefully going to fit this weekend and just wondered if i literally fit it, plug it in and away we go or if i need to do anything special to set it up... and how is best to centre it before it goes on...? Also is there a prefered option on the right servo horn to use or is personal choice...?

my current flight style is beginner with a view to progressing to scale type flying...

Sorry if this all sounds a little simple but im still learning ( trial and error ) on cp heli set ups and programming....???

    Thanks guys...!!

if it is pysicaly the same size as the stock one then simply changing it over is the easy bit. use the best horn that gives you roughly the same distance from the center to the ball that you have now.
to center the servo plug it directly into the rx and power it up.
set the gyro to digital and plug everything in correctly
then check you have correct movement with the tail blades in the 12/6 oclock position fold the bottom blade back. move the rudder stick right. the bottom blade should move right.(as if it were a boat rudder) if not reverse the rudd channel in the rx.
next hold the heli by the head button and swing the tail boom right you should see the same movement on the blade. if not revese the switch on the gyro.

if its a larger servo you will need two of the rear boom brackets (preferably metal) and a twister storm control rod. you can then boom mount the servo

        tail servo

        Thanks Ron..,

You always seem to help everytime i post a question... Thanks mate..!!

I went for the Savox mainly because it was exactly the same size as the stock one but also because its speed is 0.09sec/60deg and its full metal gears... My stock eflite one imploded when my tail rotor caught a stick on the grass. Strangley the cogs where fine but the actual motor had ceased inside and had just locked up...? Ive been told it was a stick/twig but i cant recall seeing anything at the time. i was just in a low hover and the tail rotor just broke up into several bits and i lost tail control....?

Thanks for your help on this one, i was just wondering if there was any white magic required or if it was as simple as it looked ( plug n play ). Ive been told to expect quite a pleasing difference over the stock servo in terms of tail hold/control so that will help with the learning process and hopefully you will be helping me with my questions on setting it up in a scale fuse once ive got over the shakey hovering and training gear stage...?

Couldn't help butting in here - Ron is our resident B400 "Expert"

I have used Savox servos and I think they're good servo for the price but I've only used them in fixed wing and not on helis.
