  • Spektrum DS821?

After ending up with a slightly graunchy DS620 on my throttle I decided to get another servo and was sold one of these from localish heli shop.

Since getting home with it I've read that theyre not recomended for over .30 nitros. Is this just referring to cyclic use? My intension is to stick it in my 600 tho havent opened it yet incase its not suitable. Im not flying using a gov at the mo so imagine it doesnt have to be fast.

Just wondered if anyone uses them on throttle, are they any good for the purpose? Or should I go back and get somthing else?

    Many thanks

    Mark

I have a 600ESP and use 620's throughout, no problems yet, although I only hover and light flying, they are a lot faster than I am

    Cheers

Hi Mark, I have an 821 on the throttle of my 700 and its a year or so old now, I agree that they do have rather bad press and many of a time I think to myself that I must change it but just never get round to it.
The issue as I understand is that they dont like viabration but as said mines done quite a bit of work now and still seems fine.

Not used mine when they came with the DX7 just sold them straight away as I read that they were brittle and broke easily with vibes from a nitro.
However, I have not put that to the test myself just relied on what I had read.
Might be OK for throttle use though.
        Ade.

Have run these on the throttle of my 700 for over a year.

              No problems at all.

              £10 each at Fastlads BTW.

I think lots of people have used them without any problems but I have definitely read of a couple of cases of a DS821 failing in flight even when only on the throttle channel, due to the plastic output shaft shearing.

Here's one example but it's certainly not the only one I've seen:

One of the lads in our club has had 2 of them fail on 600 throttles. Others have had no issues with them. personally its a no for me but its you decision

A lot of people have had issues as they think that the output shaft is metal and hence use thread lock on the horn screw - the shaft is plastic and the loctite makes it go brittle and then shears
