  • Stripped Metal Gears?

I bought metal gear servos hoping that this would be a thing of the past.

Following a very light crunch the metal gears have stripped in the (rear) DS610 cyclic servo, I was hoping that an upgrade to metal gears would eliminate this problem, are these servos known to be weak in this area ?

    Thanks for your help

I have never broken metal gears. The case usually cracks first.

I thought there was a sacrificial plastic gear in the gearing that would have the give so as not to damage the others, motor, casing etc.

Mmmm, I wish! They are all metal and the main (chunky) gear has 4 teeth missing! it was only a minor spill too. I could understand if it was a mega smash but this was just a simple blade strike on the ground during spoolup.

As you know Paul, crashed the 600 a few times, never done a servo, but did strip a servo horn, I think they are the sacrificial part of this servo, too bad I have now got metal horns fitted.

It's weird as the heli lurched during the first spoolup following installation of these servos right out of the box (supposedly brand new) - it was a real WTF moment.

So now I am wondering if the crash caused the servo failure or if the servo was already damaged and actually caused the crash .

+1 for me aswell... I've got a whole tin of hs65 gears and broken cases.

I just been buying the carbonite gears to replace the broken ones now.

I'm sure there's the odd dodgy 610/620 around. I had a 620 throttle servo jam up on me..and that wasn't the gears..but with their power any motor problem coudl tear teeth.
I also just had my current throttle 610 servo apart because it was stiffer than the cyclics.. liberal rinsing, relubing with servo grease and cycling it manually and it's turned smooth

you managed to break them with a light crunch, i know someone who smashed there 700 into the ground from 50 feet with 610's and the servos where as sweet as a nut

I have. You just need to crash with more vigour and panache

The 65MG is understandably weaker but the 620 gears are substantial chunks of metal.

The thing is, this was such a minor event I don't believe it could possibly have done this damage. Following the thoughts offered in this thread I am led to think the servos were actually faulty from the start and the missing teeth are the cause and not the effect .
It's a double pity as it cost me a set of beautiful Radix blades too

Thanks for your help and advice.
