I have my gyro setup fairly well except for one problem. It holds fine during punchouts and general flight but I am getting a wag on piro stops in both normal mode and idle up. I can usually stop the wag with some rudder input. I initially set the gain by raising it until it wagged then lowered it until it stopped in all three flight modes. When the piro wag occured I lowered the gain approx 5% and it still wags after a piro stop. Are there any gyro experts that can give me some ideas on what is causing the problem?

Are you hammering the model round in circles and then centring the stick on your tx quickly to stop the model turning?
If so my only thought is the gyro is mounted softish and continues to turn under inertia. Are you using a metal plate? Can you do away with the metal plate? Can you user a firmer mounting method for the gyro?

I am not at full stick deflection which obviously means it is not at full speed. I am using one gyro pad that came with the gyro, I suppose I could try a strap if I can fit one. The weird thing is on my previous flights this was not an issue.

Replace the gyro pad and try again, it may be that the gyro is coming loose from the pad or the pad is, like Andy says, is too soft for the gyro. Thanks, Chris

Worth checking that your boom supports are tight aswel as any flex in the boom can cause this.Member of Byley Model Flying Club

Some gyros have a function for this. The GY401 has a delay pot and if there is some bounce when stopping from a piro you can add a little delay. Other gyros approach the issue differently to smoothen out sudden stops.
My other thought would be making sure the linkage is totally smooth at the extremes of movement but I tend to doubt that is the problem by the sound of it.Kasama, Minicopter, Henseleit, JR, Shape, Beam

Thanks for the replies so far. The pad has only been on for about 6 flights from new and it is a JR pad. I am not sure how these compare to others, softer perhaps? I am going to move the ball out slightly on the servo arm and dial the gain down quite a bit. I will admit that I was testing out the stopping power by centreing the stick abruptly, until now I have been controlling the stick to centre. However I would have thought that the gyro was capable of handling this with ease. I have a 401 on one heli and it easily handles abrupt stops with no delay set at all.

Well I tested again today. Stops did not wag but I had a really mushy bounce back. Cured this by upping the gain. One initial problem I had was a little wag when spooling up so maybe the pad is a little too soft. Are there any preferences as far as gyro pads go?
