Futaba 401 gyro gain lead

They are designed to hold the throttle of an RC Car at a known safe point if radio signal is lost, much like our fail safes in our radios, but they just plug in between the servo and the receiver because 27Mhz receivers don’t have fail safe technology. So you could power the fail safe with a y lead and plug the gain from the 401 into its output. You would not be able to change the gain during flight, but it would set the gain without the need for a separate channel. One minor problem with be setting the gain in the first place, you would have to do this by stealing another channel, and pressing a button on the fail safe each time you change the gain.
Hope this helps

Yes you can, you just have to set your gain manually on the gyro itself, it will also leave you in Heading Hold mode only. This will give you a spare channel for other gear such as lights or landing gear retracts etc.

that failsafe method souds a bit to confusing for me
Use a screwdriver to adjust the "Delay" pot to set your gain on the gyro, the other pot limits the amount of travel on the servo, i,e to stop binding.
Hope this helps.
( i work nights, so i can't always reply that soon )

A valid question. Perhaps he only has a 5 channel radio? Or wants to use the gear channel for something else?Originally posted by heliward0 View Postwhy would you not want to use the gain lead???

Wait, what?! This works?Originally posted by stuskimac View PostUse a screwdriver to adjust the "Delay" pot to set your gain on the gyro, the other pot limits the amount of travel on the servo, i,e to stop binding.
Sorry for sounding sceptical, but I don't remember ever seeing it mentioned anywhere that you can run the 401 without remote gain.Neil H: Certified

And why not ? its just a remote gain lead that allows you to adjust the gain on your transmitter & switch from H/Hold to rate mode ! remove this lead from the receiver and the gyro will still work , permanently in H/Hold mode using the manual settings on the gyro, wouldn't it ? not sure if it would disable the AVCS system though ? i've seen post on other forums where the scale flyers have done this to allow fitting retractable undercarriage. Granted though it would seem a potential waste of a good gyro anyway ! perhaps we should ask the question as to why he wants to do this anyway ? is it because of damage or another application ?Originally posted by unwind-protect View PostWait, what?! Well, that's what I'm trying to establishOriginally posted by stuskimac View PostAnd why not ?
I've never seen this mentioned as a feature anywhere; certainly if you look at Futaba® Gyros Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) then it suggests it's a feature of the 502 that the 401 doesn't have. I guess it might default to rate mode (which as you point out is pretty much a waste of a gyro!) but there's no mention of that mode of operation in the manual.

Yes, i went through the manual & there site too ! and couldn't find the answer either ? i have done it on an eflite gyro, and it worked fine, but thats a cheap gyro, not sure i'd wanna try it on my 401 ? I just thought in theory it should work, but you've got me wondering now ? i'm pretty sure i heard it mentioned before though on another thread somewhere.
