Futaba S9257 @ 6v?

Hi peeps - just wondering if any of you out there have been running a S9257 @ 6v? just realised it doesn't officially run at that - only 4.8v.

So - anyone been doing this? I'd barely class myself as a 'sport' flyer - so no hard 3D - if that makes a difference!

This is to run on a Trex 500 btw (with Quark gyro).

6v is fine for a servo rated at 4.8v, over 6v you are pushing your luck.

It's that simple

It will run on 6v but won't last as long. Voltages are quoted for NiMh packs which charge to well over 6v. A 4.8v NiMh pack charges to almost 6v. With regulated voltages we run it's not an issue. However, put a 10p IN1004 rectifier diode inline (which is what is inside an slign step down) and your servo will last longer. IMHO 10p investment is worth a longer life for an expensive servo.

Do a search for 9254 and 6v. The same applies to the 9257 as the 9254. The jury really is out on whether you can run these servo's on 6v. If you use a step down to bring the voltage down, you add another item in the chain of electronics which could possibly fail.

I asked this question (along with many others) if it was safe. With the comments i got back, i decided to remove it from my 700 and replace with an Align 650, but that was my choice, and nothing against the 9254.

Lots of the arguements were against NiCad/NiMh batterys and not Lipo regulators.

Have a read back and make your own mind up mate.

Aidi it's one of my pet peeves

Run them at whatever voltage you like really but higher has to be better/faster, if it limits the life my take is it's only ever going to be minimal.

If you are that worried about you tail servo buy a new one every so many flights or months or weeks or hours, whatever takes your fancy really. Unless you do the above you just have to wait till they start to misbehave. Most people use them till they start to misbehave etc. no servo is going to send you a letter in triplicate that it is about to fail!!!
