  • gyro position on t-rex 600

I'm replacing the pads on my spartan/t-rex 600,i have read that the 3g sensor works better mounted at the rear (front tail gear box (where we used to mount them) because there is less vibration, and was thinking of placing the spartan there for the same reasons,i know the down side of this placement i.e less protection ,oil, exhaust etc etc ,but what do you guys think ????

    cheers

That's where I have my DS760 mounted (on the boom block). When I got the 600 second hand, its how the gyro was mounted and I was used to that layout from my 450 anyway. Seems to work fine

I have always put the gyro on the front mounting platform, and never had any problems on either of the 2 600's i owned or the two 700's which i currently fly. I have used 401's, Spartan and the 3G 780 mounted under the canopy.

One thing to bear in mind by putting the gyro at the rear, when (and you will) strip the umbrella gear by digging the tail in doing auto's, not only will you have to contend with replacing the gears, but then go through the full set of the gyro again. Also, with it exposed at the back its more likely to be fouled with fuel etc rather than having it covered by the canopy.

Just a few areas to consider mate

Hi martin I always use the plate , and in my opinion it works well , my Spartan is not great at the min but have traced it back to the pads ,if I were you I'd replace the pads and include the plate , it may well cure your problem

I always had my gyro mounted at the rear on my 600.it never saw any fuel but the downside was having to replace the pads every time i stripped the tail gears

you can modify the front mount to fit on the back and works perfectly well there ive never had any problems with it there and it dont seem to get much oil on it either

Just this week transferred my gyro to the rear to try.

Not getting 100% success from using the normal mount on the front.

                        Will report back later.
