  • Ripmax.. Not so good.

Having seen my 700 plant itself last Sunday one item of damage was the Futaba GY520 gyro ripped from the airframe and pulled the plug off the cable.

I posted the gyro to Ripmax on Monday morning Next Day and have heard nothing since.

I rang them this afternoon checking on any progress only to be told the gyro was irreparable due to the latest "Mini" gyro's are not repaired like the old bigger type gyro's.

When I told him bollox that's utter rubbish he assured me that was the procedure nowadays.

So beware anyone purchasing this type of gyro, If you have a cable rub through on the frame or similar your gyro is knackered or irreparable as he put it.

    Bad news indeed.

On the upside he told me I could purchase a new gyro in these circumstances at a lower price of £69.

    Cheeky Tw@t.

I have sent a couple of gyros back to CSM for service. I asked them how much is the charge beforehand. Their reply was the most they have ever charged was £35 and that was to change the sensor itself.

For a new case and recalibrate the total charge to me was £10.00.

I sent a 401 back to ripmax for testing as it was drifting and not holding properly, but they could not find anything wrong with it, they sent it back, and charged me for the test, i was not impressed either, and it still drifted, yet i had another one that was fine

We are talking about fitting a simple plug on the end of the cable here guy's, nothing wrong with the actual gyro itself.

I was considering the 520 for my 700, Tim. Perhaps I will stick with my initial idea tho - the Quark.

Now you start to understand some of the reasons why I call them Rip(off)max

They did the same to me with a Futaba GV1

According to them nothing is repairable, it's always only binable, oh and we can do you a special deal on a new replacement, wink, wink.

In fairness to the Futaba repair guy(s), that's what they've been told to say, oh shit, did I say that, now I have to kill you all !

Why does it always persist down at weekends ?

I think its very poor customer service to say that and not even attempt a repair (and try to flog another gyro instead), if i were you Tim, i would get in touch with Futaba and find out whether it is true.. Sounds a bit suspect to me that a simple plug cannot be replaced..

                          Its a con Mo.

No way is that gyro knackered when it would take around 5 minutes to fit a new socket on with the correct equipment.

This is part the reason I use Spartan Gyro's.
A couple of weeks back i had a few problems with my DS760 - It seemed to re-set mid flight, inconsistant holdign and piros etc.
I sent it back to them, and it was well out of warrentee. (they gave me a full list of owners from new, and it was also used by Ade Law quite some time ago when he flew for spartan).

Being that the first paragraph stated it was well out of warrentee, I figured I would have to pay for repairs etc.

There were 2 problems, 1 was cracked diode, and the other a cracked crystal sensor or something like that. The cable also looked a little well used too.

The next line stated that they have repaired it all for free, put a new cable on and re-conditioned it, updated with the latest firmware and reset it back to standard so it should be as good as new. ALL completly free of charge, and then they send it back with first class recorded aswell.

Amasing service, and UK company aswell. I would recomend Spartans to anyone, even just for their customer service
