  • Anyone using the Hitec 5084MG tail servo

Looking for a tail servo for a 450 sized heli to go with a spartan DS760 gyro. The futaba S9257 seems very popular, but the Hitec 5084MG is lighter, faster and cheaper although the torque at 5v is lower than the S9257. I've done some looking around on here and elsewhere and most people seem to give good reviews, but it seems there maybe evidence of them buzzing a bit and getting hot if used with high gyro gains.

    Any thoughts ?

    Im running one with a GY401 on a blade 400 @5V

So far its been great although tbh I havent had time to have more than a few flights on it but it does seem pretty locked in so far.

Fut S9650 is great on a spartan and if you can beat it then get a 9257 gearset for the sppedup...

and you wont need a high gain on your spartan unless you want a seriously waggie tail... mins is about 23 -26% from memory...

Why do you suggest using a 9650 and then replacing the gear sets with a 9257. Why not just get the 9257 and be done with it as they are the same price and it is my understanding that the gearset is the only difference between these servos any way.

Also whilst these are both supposed to be very good servos (I was originally going to get the 9257) they are also twice the price of the hitec.

I guess your choice really depends on your budget and what heli the servo is going in to.

I always thaught the 9257 was a dinky lil thing... the 9650 has a bigger body... just checked... its the same ... i remember now i couldnt get 9257's at teh time so i retroed the gears after i got it flying.... and then changed teh 3153's onthe cyclic for digitals... they were quick but a little fragile for cyclic's
