  • Throttle Servo or Governor?

    Hi All
I had a little problem this afternoon with my throttle servo. It appeared to cease, thankfully it was at a high enough headspeed to hover, all be it with a bit of a wobble.
When the receiver power was switched off the servo could be moved, and when the power switched back on the servo would not move, ceased in the position it was left in regardless of the stick position.
When I got home to try and diagnose the problem everything was working normally, all the connections are secure.
Now the problem is what should I be looking for to try and reproduce / diagnose the problem?
    Chris
PS The Governor is a Curtis ATG, on a JR 811 Servo, neither are new, but have never been crashed (I have owned them from new)

Change one thing at a time - try a different servo first I guess, as that's probably the cheapest link in the chain - any old cheapie servo will do just for a couple of test flights. If it turns out to be the servo then you can think about getting a decent one. Also check for any damage to the servo wire from maybe chaffing on a side frame or something. And, check that the sensor magnets are still in place. If it's not the servo, then you need to try maybe a new governor sensor first (cheap), after that the governor unit.

If it were me, I'd go about it in this order.....

    1. check the magnets are still there
    2. inspect the servo wire for damage
    3. try the servo plugged into a different receiver channel
    4. try a different servo
    5. try a different governor sensor
    6. new governor

Didnt think of putting a (even cheaper) servo on for a test, must have something knocking around. Good call.

        Found the problem.

I could not find any problem with my setup, so I decided to fly it again, and discoverd I could force it to happen when I went from IDL2 to Hold.

I have a 10C, which has a "CUT" function on the govenor menu, I had this set on the same channel as the governor seed, this caused the ATG to see a high rpm, the G View said 2200rpm, when hold is selected. If I hit hold when the govenor was on a high idle was held, but not the 2200rpm displayed on the G View. You can't switch this "CUT" function off, so I moved it to another channel, problem sorted.

Strange this is not a problem for my Align Govenor on my 700, only the ATG. I suspect, although I have not found it yet, that there menu option in the ATG to sort this.

        Chris.
