What to reg on an 8V setup??

Hi everyone,

Im going 8V on my new 700le and wondering what i should regulate, as it's my first time going 8v... I am trying to avoid getting a regulator and just using 5.1v step downs...

any tips would be greatly appreciated...

I am going to be using the following:

AR7000, 3 x DS610's, 620 on throttle, GP750 and DS650, align governor.

Or should i just use a VR5203 spektrum regulator?

As I understand it the cheap 5.1 stepdowns only stepdown to that from regulated 6v.

Unless your electronics are rated for 8v then your going to be stepping down or regulating it. OK with spektrum you have an option of rx with regulator rather than using the 2:1 if it was in your kit.. but then you need an alternative glow source.

I did some messing about with checking adn readin re onboard power issues and it's scary.. fast moving, changing direction servos can theoretically pull almost 2A each momentarily and a binding servo will do that too.There is strong argument on big helis for a serious power source ..capable of 15A plus.. despite the fact that most folk get away with it. there's also a strong argument for a separate rx source so that at least failsafe has a chance of working.

Apart from the cost i do like the look of reactor x2
