If the gyro is supplied with spongy pads, then don't you think Colin Mill thinks they are the most appropriate pads for the gyro, and has undoubtedly done a load of testing in this field?
In my previous experiences of CSM gyros - the big 560s a few years ago, they always worked best with the proper CSM pads, regardless of how soft they are.
Try it stock by the instructions before changing anything in my opinion.
I use CSM720 gyro's in both my Vibe 90SG and Vibe 50.
From actual experience, what works really well is to use an align (grey) pad between the gyro and the metal plate, and then a square of the Align blue gel pad between the metal plate and the gyro mount on the heli frame.
I've been using this for a few months now and it works perfectly. The Align blue gel pad is brilliant at soaking up unwanted vibration.
Hope this helps

I have had no probs at all with the CSM advised method. Im currently running 98% gain and it works fantastic. I even let Jon Cook fly it today and he was really impressed.

mmmm, seems to be a split on this one. when i first fitted the 720 i used the supplied foam and found that the tail would move from side to side with the movement of the gyro on the csm pads, this would show up more on tic tocs and hard tail stops,so i removed the csm pads and the wobble with it.
i agree that colin obviously knows what works best for his gyro buy it just didnt work for me
Nick,i suppose the thing to do is to use the csm foam first and see how you get on.After all its the foam thats been tested with the gyro
I tried using 4 CSM pads (one at each corner) and wag was present. Used 9 pads to make a complete base and it was better. About to try a futaba pad after my recent rebuild.
