  • HS65MG Vs HB

    Hi Guys

I'm just giving some thought to what servos to put in my newly acquired T-rex 250SE. I don't want the Align DS410s.

My first thought was to go for the HS-65MGs but then I thought in such a small heli, is the metal gear version really of much benefit? It's just that the Hitec HS-65HBs are available for around £12.75 a piece, as opposed to £16.50 for the MGs.

    Your thoughts?
    Martin

Most of the Aligns, fair few Spektrum bits, bunch of Align & HiTec servos, OBE, VD & Bar.

Worth the extra £12 in total imo.

Will always be easier to sell in future too.

Push the boat out for the 5065's you know you want to Martin - Inwoods are very cheap for these (at least they were the cheapest in Dec when I got my set). You could put the 5065's on the 450 and move the 65MG's to the 250...

but what about servo choice for the 700SE - 610's I guess you will go with (next month will it be LOL)

Thanks for the input guts. Looks like it'll be the 65MGs then.

I take your point on the 5065s Rob. However, I'm a bit of a believer in fleet rationalisation. Hence having the 65MGs on two of my helis cuts down the need for holding as many spares.

I have HS45HB's in my Gaui. Yea 65's are like putting 9650's on cyclic on a 450.

The digitals are more likely to overheat the BEC in the speedo IMHO on the 250, particularly if you go with a Mid tail servo.

The HS65HB and 65MG are physically the same dimensions. you can buy the HB and try them. After a bit of a crash you will strip a gear or tweo but you can replace the gears with the metal ones and your HBs will become MGs.
For a good whlle I was running two HBs and an MG on my swash as it was a long time before I finally broke the last HB gear set.
Now i have the 5065 digis and they are noticably better, but my HS65MGs seems to have become weak. My scoropion 55A is coping no probs with running 4 digi servos.

I have used HS65HBs on last two 450 heli's (Blade 400, then 450 pro), I got them a lot cheaper than the MG, and gear sets are only a couple of quid so I bought a set with the servo's for insurance - I've not crashed to find out how easily they strip.

I understood the MG servo still has a plastic gear on the motor output, so can still strip in a crash - or just breaks the top plate moulding where the shaft goes into it, so not sure the MG is an advantage for small heli's, the HB has the advantage of no slop or wear, compared with MG which will start to get sloppy over time.

Having said that, price difference between 65MG and 5065 is only a couple of quid a servo, not sure if its worth not going for the digitals.

Funnily enough, I have three HS65HB on my 450 Pro, which I have bought 5065s to replace as I am going flybarless on it in next couple of weeks, so will probably be selling these on for 40 quid posted.
