  • Mutant Servo gear change's

Building up my collection of Futaba 9650 servos for my T500 to replace the Hi-Tec 5245's cyclics that are currently on it & read somewhere that the S9650 will take the 9257 replacement gear set!

What effect will this have, will I notice a difference, if I do this, does it give me a 9257 servo instead of a 9650 servo? What other servos can be mutated & to what effect?????

The amount of Servo's out there still confuses the hell out of me!!!!!!!

I would expect the gear set to determine the speed and torque of the output shaft so if the 9257 gears fitted the 9650 then you would end up with a high speed tail servo

could be wrong with this assumption though

      Thats exactly it.
On the 9650 you can fit some of the 9257 gears and then it becomes a faster servo (but with a bit less torque). I've done this to the 9650 I have on my 450 tail.

I think the 9650 with the 9257 gear swap is a slightly faster servo than the pukka9257.

for your swash I suggest sticking with std 9650 servos as yuo probably need the torque.

My 500 has Ds510 on swash and DS520 on tail. I suspect its only the gears that are different in there two servos and it might be possible to convert one into the other - but I've only had a 510 apart so far.
By the way the 510s are excellent for the trex500 - the 9650 is a rather expensive alternative.

Thanks for the reply moyesboy. I may buy the DS510's for cyclic as you suggested & keep the 9650's as spare tail servos.
