  • 401 flashing

    Hi all,
My 401 seems to work ok apart from the led constantly flashes, have tried rebinding but it stays the same no matter which switch position I used?
Do I need a new gyro?
    Any ideas?

Have you got any rudder trim on your Tx?

You need to have it in HH when you switch it on, and don't move the heli until the LED goes solid.

Another thing what makes it flash is when you don't cycle the power on the Tx between switching the Rx off and on.

          Rob: No rudder trim
Chug: Already in HH and always leave the heli till it all boots up, but gyro still flashes
Steve: Never noticed the tx cycling thing before, will try it to see if it helps!
By the way I am using an AR6000 and dx6i, the gyro is on my Trex 450

            From the 401 manual

            LED display Gyro operation state

Rapid flash Displayed while data is being initialized at power ON.

Steady light Indicates that the gyro is operating in the AVCS mode.

Off Indicates that the power is OFF, or the gyro is operating
            in the normal gyro mode.

Slow flash Displayed when there are no rudder operation signal being
input from the transmitter. At this time, the rudder servo
            does not operate.

Intermittent flash Alarm display when the power was turned on in the
normal gyro mode. For the rudder neutral signal to be read correctly, set the transmitter to the AVCS mode and turn on the gyro power again.

Double flash Displayed when the rudder signal from the transmitter
in the AVCS mode is different from the neutral signal memorized in the gyro. Also flashes when the rudder stick was operated.

Single flash Displayed only when the transmitter sensitivity switch is
rapidly switched between the normal and AVCS positions at least 3 times, then returned to the AVCS position and the transmitter rudder stick was rapidly moved to the left and right at least 3 times. After this display goes off, the
rudder is in the neutral position.

The gyro flashes slowly, but the tail servo still works normally? Anyone I can send the gyro to to get it checked?

                Definately no trim or sub-trim?
Gain set accordingly? i.e. to enable HH mode?

No trim or subtrim, gyro gain set to 67.5%. As I said it all appears to work normally, would just like it to work properly!! Have been told in the past of it being a binding problem, but can't remember the exact details, the heli is bound to the tx as I fly without any other probs

Have you put the gain % in the ATV or the Gyro Sense settings, there in 2 places... think needs to be in the Gyro Sense section rather than ATV's to work right... i think... for a DX6i

By binding problem people usually mean failsafe problem. The rx needs to be bound with the tx in HH mode to set the failsafe correctly, as the gyro needs to see a HH signal at startup, typically from the failsafe settings, for it will initialize properly. You can check on the monitor page of the transmitter that the gyro switch does something useful; you might want to make the value a bit bigger as 50% (in the gyro menu) is the channel mid value i.e. gyro off.

If you quickly cycle the power on the receiver without cycling the transmitter, the receiver will pick up the signal immediately and pass it through to the gyro without the failsafes interfering; this will let you confirm which way the switch needs to be for HH mode.

try switching form avcs to rate mode three times quicky to reset the neutral position once everything has initalised

It would appea my Rx is the root of the fault. Got an Align GP750 on my 'Rex now, and the status LED shows red, indicating "normal" mode, green would show Heading Hold mode, bugger! I do have a 6200 but it would be too big to fit my trex, although I will try it to prove this fault.

Try plugging a servo into the gain channel and see if the servo moves when you move the gear switch on the transmitter.

This way you can see visually what the gain channel is doing.

Plugged a servo in, the channel worked fine, had another look at the radio and found the flippin gyro channel was reversed!! Set it to normal and the gyro plays in the correct way! Looks like I have a spare decent gyro now And I already have a motor and esc, plus 3 tower pro servos... all I need is a frame and tail servo and I'm away!! lol
