  • Align servos update

Well i didn't think i would ever say this, but i am actually a little disapointed with my 610's, after having an inspection on my aurora tonight, i noticed that all 3 have cracks around the tabs, and i am going to have to change all 3 cases.
Have looked at my others and they seem ok, but the aurora has never been in a ding and they are rubber mounted to vibration protect them so not to happy

Sorry to hear that. So far my 610s are holding out, but my 620 went pear shaped on Sunday.

Is it worth you sending them back and claiming warranty?

Does anyone have an real idea why this is happening or is it just a case of
the usual align "quality " tester having an off day - was going to fit them as a upgrade in my 700........

would it be better to put foam to stop vibrations?
        just an idea

edit: foam would have more air spaces to compress

Do you use the spacers when fitting the servos?

if you are going to change the caseings you would be aswell to boil them before fitting , as i used to do this with brittle rc car plastics as it softens them up therefor makeing them bendt rather than brittle , got to be worth a go

The rubber mounts are the ones you get with the servos for the attachment tabs.
No i didn't fit the spacers as the bolts are to big a diameter

I have had this conversation with a few people and it appears it is better to fit the ferrules as this can prevent overtightning of the screws and allow the rubber dampers to work better, just a thought.

That is rather strange as the screws provided with my Evo and SDX are 2.6mm and they go through the ferrules supplied with JR and Futaba servos.

Maybe they are 3mm then, but either way they are to big

Do you put the screws through direct or do you have a plate on top of the grommets? If you can't use the ferrules a plate may help.

Just as i said James.... the same on my Aurora when i broke it down to sell Did not notice till i took them out but one was just floating in its position with all mounts broken!!

The Aurora is known for being harsh on electrics and there have been many posts in the US about protecting RX's etc from vibes but its severe to break servo mounts.

I have installed my 610's in my SG now with new cases and already one mounting post has cracked so i should change the case... again!

Al lthe rest are ok and on my 50 also but it is a concern. I feel Align are making the cases far too brittle and it needs resolving.

The performance of the servo is all good as we know but frequent case replacements without crashes are unnacceptable for a servo of any use IMO.

Has anyone discussed this with Robbe or skyline at all i wonder?

Aurora servo mounting screws are 2.5mm.

I don't use the ferrules though. I mount my servos using the rubber damper parts and servo mounting plates. I used to fit them too tightly (so I learned...) but now I do them up just enough to not allow movement of the servo, while not squashing the life out of the rubber damper.

I have had a few Align 610 servo cases have their tabs break off in flight (not from crashing) - and I know of some others in the same boat.

It's a big shame for these servos as they work very well and are great value for money - but the brittle cases let them down IMO.

Perhaps boiling the cases is the way to go?

Warranty claims would be pointless when the case sets are £3 each!
                            LOL
                            Cheers,
                            Rob

It might be worth boilng them.

I did the same with RC parts when the quality of plastic was poor.
