  • Digital Servo Question

A simple one this (i hope). Ive got a 9254 on the tail, but was wondering if i can use digital servo's all round (i.e. will the rx support the use of digital servo's, or would i need to change it?)? Would it be a real advantage on my raptor 30v2 to change any or all to digital? the main reason i ask is if i do a full power climb out, it isnt masively responsive (which i understand is down to engine size as much as anything else), but could i improve it by using a digital?

    Thanks,

    Jamie

the main thing digitals give you is more accuraccy. You dont always gain speed it depends which one you buy.

3152s are a good budget servo and will improve accuracy no end.

beware that you will need to upgrade your battery to a sub C sized 2000+ nicad.

ive currently got s148's running everything bar the tail, which according to the futaba website are .23 second @4.8v. the 3152 you mentioned are .22, so i understand what you say about precision, but would it be a worthwhile upgrade? the main reason i wanted to change was to incrase the response (mainly on the pitch control), so would i be going down the right track looking at something like a 9252?

Ive already upgraded to a sub-c 2400 rx pack.

you also have to look at torque. Servo speeds are "no load" speeds. a 4kg servo with 4kg of load will be slower than a 6kg servo of the same speed running at 4kg.

the 9252 is an excellent servo as is the 9255. I have 9252 on the CCPM of the knight. very strong, very reliable.

          Hi Jamie
i have recently changed the cyclic and pitch servos from S148s to S3152s on my Raptor 50 and the difference was a lot more than I was expecting!
The price is a lot more favourable than the 9252s etc. too. The didnt appear to be that much difference in the speed although it was a bit faster but there was a massive difference in the feel or response.
The best way to describe it would be to say that, looking back, the sticks on the Tx were connected to the heli with elastic bands but now it feels like there is a direct connection.
Best thing I have put on my heli so far
          Cheers, Lee.

How much did it cost to change?

I put a digi hi-tec on my pitch as it was all my local shop had but I have to say my Pitch does feel a lot smoother for it. Hovering seems to hold easier and smoother could be just me though.

I will invest in 3152's for the rest of the Raptor when I can afford it.

                  Thats my plan anyway...
