Are Futaba gyro pads still a rare as rocking horse do-do ?

          Maybe that's why he's asking

What's the opinion of the csm double pad with a metal sheet sandwiched between ?

I would advise you use the correct pads, the CSM/Throttle Jockey square ones are fine for Futaba gyros and vice versa but make sure its a proper gyro pad and not just padded double sided sticky....Clean the surfaces well also, you do not want a Gyro popping off in flight

Ive had some bad experences with using the csm pads with futaba gyro's (think they are just too "squishie"), esp on hard prio stops...

But yeh the futaba replacement pads do seam hard to get still. Midland always have the JR ones which are nearly the same or Alex @ rcmarket was selling stips of the futaba stuff off at the 3d masters (which was where i got mine)

I'd second the comment about CSM pads and Futaba gyros, they just don't like the extra softness/sqiushyness of the CSM pads. although the new 720 style pads may be a different kettle of fish...

And another thing I have seen people doing which may be correct but to me it seems to defeat the object, using a tie wrap around the gyro and frame/mount. This is especially prevelent on the trex size helis but surely this just passes vibrations thru the tie to the gyro, can't be a good thing can it ?

Ive been using the Velcro method as an extra bit of security for a couple of years know...

Initially i thought the same, but with the futaba gyro's it dosn't effect them one bit (and the stock tape has a habit of degrading over time so its a "nice to have").. Wouldn't use it with the csm gyro's though as they seem to like a much more softer dampening method.

I have just stuck my T-Rex 401 down with some double sided padded tape...

                        Is that bad?

It's about 1mm thick. Not quite as thick as what came off the gyro when I moved it.

I would like my heli to last a bit longer before I crash it again!
                        Cheers, Lee.

revolution models had loads of the futaba ones at the 3DM, I bought two packs they inc 3 pads each. Can't remember how much to be honest my wallet was still crying from the hit it took at Skylines...

I used double side tape once..... never never again, after half a flight I was hovering at only 3 ft or so and the bloody tape let go and the gyro did it's impression of tarzan swinging by its lead. fortunately got the heli on the ground sharpish and no damage but leason learnt, don't cut corners.

I thought you only borrowed that TReX, you have been hitting your wallet hard.
Cant blame you tho, must be nice having best of both worlds.
