  • RCE-600.. Any Good?

Just bought (but not yet collected) a Trex 450SE V2 and it apparently has an RCE-660 Gyro fitted. Was wondering how this compares to the much hyped GY401 Gyro....

    ????

    Thanks in advance

Fitted one to my trex 500 when I first got back into heli's it was great and got me back doing circuits and the like. Replaced with a mini G a few weeks ago. But for normal flying I would say it will do you very well.

The RCE600 can be a pretty good gyro.
Align had some issues with component quality (I think) in this gyro so there were a few units that had issues. I have used 3 of these gyro's and two worked perfectly - one was iffy (tail wouldn't stop drifting, etc).

Align have discontinued this gyro and replaced it with the GP750 which is excellent.

I still have 2 RCE600's in use on two heli's and they work fine.
      Cheers,
      Rob

        You sure about that Rob?
Align made a GP700 that was rather swiftly replaced with the GP750.
The RCE-600 is the lower cost unit, supposed to have 401 performance. This is the one with the red label. However I tried two different examples on my trex500 and they both had an annoying drift that I could get rid of (despite trying a few different mounting methods) -so I repaced it with a CSM720.
Others seem to like the RCE-600 and apart from the drift the performance was very good.

I've got one on my twister3d. Its very good once its at a constant temperature. You need to have it switched on for a bit, then switch off and on again. Its not as good as the 401 which has SMM. Should be ok for the warmer weather. Could depend a lot on the rotation sensor you get, they could vary a lot as there is no drift spec. It does calibrate for neutral rudder setup so you can use rudder trim. Only calibrates by power on/off though unlike the 401 which does it by switch waggling.

            Thanks again guys,

Will keep it for a while, then maybe think about fitting the GY401.
            Cheers.

              Hi Gordon,
Yes mate - that's my experience of the RCE600
I've not used the GP700, but have used one GP750, which works fine too.
I guess the "replaced the 600 with the 750" is wrong... would be better to say the 600 is now discontinued and the current Align gyro is the GP750.

              Cheers,
              Rob
