  • LT2100 gyro gain settings in Futaba 6ex.

OK, I've set up my LT2100 gyro according the Finless Bobs videos but I have a question about the gyro setting in my TX.

In the videos he says about setting both the gear and gyro channel gain to 32% but if I do that the tail lock (TL) light will not go out when in rate (gear) mode. In the Logictech instructions it says that the TX setting of 0 to 50% is rate mode and 50% to 100% is TL (heading hold) mode. but when I set the rate mode gain to 32% and the TL mode gain to 82% the TL light will not go out in either mode. The only way I can get the TL light to go out in rate mode is to set the rate gain to a -ve value.

So I now have rate mode gain (TL light off) at -32% and gyro mode gain (TL light on) at +32%. So does the 6ex gain use -100% to 0 for rate mode and 0 to +100% for TL mode ?

So before I fly again this is what I have on the bench, when in rate mode I get full left and right rudder and the servo centralises when I let go of the stick and when I flick to TL mode I get full rudder each way but the servo does not centralise as, I presume, there is no action on the gyro to make it work. Does this sound right ??

I have also tried this with Ch5 reversed and it seemed to make no difference at all so I have left Ch5 alone and not reversed it.

I have read this loads of times to make sure it reads OK so I do hope you understand what I am asking...

Last thing for me to do is hover it and set the servo for zero drift in rate mode then that should be it, assuming I have the gains set up right in my TX.

    cheers

It seems to me this is why nobody wants anything to do with gyro menus!

Some radios use 0%-100% to represent the entire range (like pitch and throttle curves), whereas some use -100% to +100% to represent the whole range. There's probably even some that use 0-100%, but separately each side of centre, like a surrogate travel adjust. It's too complicated and error prone when using travel adjust alone is sufficient 90% of the time.

You have to remember that the travel adjust you set on the gyro gain channel (5) is going to scale the output from your gyro gain menu, so the signal sent will be 32%*32% = 10%, which is probably in the 'dead zone' where the gyro considers the gain to be so small to be useless (and therefore essentially switches off).

I'd suggest either use the gyro menu and leave the ch 5 travel adjust at 100% both ways, or disable the gyro menu completely and use the travel adjust to set the gain value; the gear switch will then switch from one extreme of travel to the other. I'd start at 50% both sides of centre and work from there.
