  • 700 drift with Spartan

    Hi peeps

Got a wierd problem. I have a Spartan 760/BLS 251 on my 700. I'm finding it drifts to the left but seemingly only when inverted?!

Any ideas? I'm running a YS91SR and have leaned out the hover needle thinking it could be a bit rich causing the creep but no joy. Also tried increasing the gain and lubing up the mechanism (which was nice and free anyway tbh). No trim or subtrim either.

Puzzled! I'm hoping the Addicts mob will have the answer!

i've seen this before, drifting when inverted. a thinner pad fixed it. the weight of the gyro upside down was enough to cause it to drift. we must have been right on the edge vibration wise and the weight of gyro tipped it over. if i hadn't seen this myself i wouldn't have believed it.

could maybe try minus the metal plate if you using it aswell. or try it if not. play about.

    cheers

I find mounting the gyro at the back instead of on the provided gyro platform gives a much more vibration free mount.

Wow!! Would NEVER have thought of that! Thanks a lot. I just used the mounting pads the came with it i.e. thick at the bottom, metal plate, thin pad at the top then gyro.

        Which one should I change?

i'd personally try it minus the metal plate with just a thick pad and go from there.

as ashley says the gyros do work better out the back. i've also got mine out there.

          cheers

None of them, just tie it down tighter with an align velcro strap.

I've got a strap on there as a security measure but always thought gyros didnt like to be strapped down?

better to get the mount right than rely on a velcro strap for correct vibration damping.

don't bother relying on a strap to stop drift. the strap should only be used for security incase the pad fails.

                  get the mount right.

                  cheers

edit-i guess i aint quick enough typing ash!

                    ^ Thats what I thought.

Its strange that mine is drifting though as club mates have the same set up with no issues. For some reason the 760/9254 on my 600 feels more locked in with a much lower gain value. Very odd!

I'll try different mounting methods. Thanks for the help chaps.

pete, as i said it could be your heli is on limit of vibe level or something as i said above. too many variants to have 2 identical helis. i've only heard of this twice and this was the cure both times so be interested to see if it fixes yours.

                      cheers

i had this not long ago... i took off the thin white pad and replaced it with another thick (futaba style) pad. So in total i have 2 thick pads and the metal plate. Works great now and thats mounted up front on the mount. I did also think about mounting it at the rear but prefer it up front out the way and was happy when another thick pad sorted it.

                          Cheers

Yeh makes sense really when you think about... bigger engine, more vibration so needs more dampning (thicker pad).
Good luck, got a good feeling thats all its gonna be
