  • Spartan Problem

Bought a brand new Spartan ds760 Sport and it arrived today.

Am I correct in thinking when a nicad/power source is fed to the gyro it should light up.

Have registered the gyro serial number successfully and want to upgrade but can't make the gyro light up at all.

Have downloaded the "Blue" flashlink driver and its reccognised it to Com3 but nothing from the gyro at all.

I have in the past successfully upgraded my other Spartan gyros without a hitch.

    Windows Vista 32 bit.

    Any ideas guy's.??

Sounds faulty if your not getting any life from it with a power source?

Tim - I too received a Spartan Sport today, I thought I would be able to flash it by just plugging a receiver battery into the servo port, but it didnt want to work.

It flashed OK when it was connected to the receiver though. Maybe you need it to see the receiver?

I am a little nonplussed about the gyro at the moment, it is no where near as plug and play as my Solid G was, but it is a nice compact unit. Having to go through all that unpleasantness of setting up rate mode is a right PIA!

I am wondering if I should have got a mini-G as I am now stuck at a half way house!

wont it have to see a centre signal or something to that effect before it works? ie by plugging rx/servo into it.

              cheers

As far as i know it has to be connected to the reciever with the transmiter on .Well that the way i done my two .Never tried to just connect a RX pack straight to the gyro.

pretty sure it has to be receiving a signal from the TX and tail servo

Jason, I've never set up rate mode on any of my Spartans and in fact I'd say it's the easiest ive ever set up, much easier than all the faffing I had to do to get a solid g working even close to the performance of the Spartans that worked straight out of the box

Interesting, so do you just set a centre blades at centre and then set the limits? That's all I needed to do with the Solid G.

                      Problem sorted.

Hooked the gyro up to my T-Rex 500 with the AR7000 fitted and it recognised it straight away.

                      Bizarre carry-on.

Taken from the spartan web site

                        2. Is it necessary to setup the tail with 8deg pitch in rate mode?

You only need the 8deg adjustment if you want to run your Spartan gyro in rate mode. In AVCS mode Spartan gyros work equally well whether the "neutral" tail pitch is set to 8deg or 0deg. However, keep in mind that if rate mode is not setup correctly the helicopter may piro uncontrollably if you accidentally switch to it in flight.

On a related topic; despite common misconception tail servos are not overworked if the "neutral" tail pitch is set to 0deg. For the servo holding any shaft position is pretty much the same.

I set mine up with neutral tail pitch as described above

I've run them 3 ways and it made no decernable difference in flight. i.e approx 8deg/Hovered in Rate Mode and adjusted the linkage/Centred tail slider.

Personally I dont fly rate mode at all.

                          Also from Spartan Support page.

For anyone having trouble powering on the gyro though the servo plug... the answer is simple. The gyro takes power from the red gain plug! Mentioned at FAQ topic 23 here: http://www.spartan-rc.com/support.php?faq=22
