    Guys,

for heading Hold what gain % should I aim for?

got a 401gyro 9254servo combo for my Swift and going to test
    Saturday.

Just after a rough % value to start at.

    Thanks

If the tail wags quickly then reduce it and if it wags slowly then up it - might be the other way round.

start at 50% and adjust for drift or tail wag.

use the right servo horn length to get the limit value on the gyro to just over 120. On most stuff you adjust the lingage length to give full travel of the tail pitch slider. On models with massive tail pitch ranges flick into normal mode and get it to hover hands off with no trim by adjusting the linkage length.

gain to 50, this will probably go up to about 60-65. large jabs of rudder should give a crisp sharp stop with no bounce.

          Guys,

Get this there is no adjuster on either end of the pushrod for the tail
on the Swift. The best I can do is slide the Servo up/down the boom then tighten!

I have never used normal mode I only ever fly on Heading Hold, Because
it works for me! Saying that I can hover a Heli with a normal gain if I want
          to.

hovering in normal mode is just to get the mechanical centre this helps the gyro get the stops equally sharp in both directions and stuff.

moving the servo is sometimes easier than popping links!

              Hey Disc,

One thing to remember when setting up the gyro is that in normal mode, you can use the rudder trim on the transmitter. This is particularly useful for getting the model to hover straight.

By using the trim to find the point at which the model hovers straight is nice and easy to do, once you have found it, simply disconnect the pushrod at either the servo or tail end making absolutely sure the position the tail slider is in does not change, then with the rod disconnected, reset the trim on the transmitter back to the centre, this will tell you whether the rod is too long or too short and how much it needs to be adjusted by to make it fit perfectly.

Once you have reset the length of the tail pusrod, reconnect it and hover the model again in normal mode, this time the model should hover straight without needing any trim changes, if it still needs a little trim to hover straight, repeat the previous process until you get it spot on.

Once you are happy with the centre point in normal mode, check the adjustmet of the end points once more to make sure it doesnt now bind up one side or the other. Once you have done that, turn the receiver off and making sure the switch on the transmitter is set such that the gyro will power up in heading hold mode when the model is turned on (This is very important and must be done everytime the model is turned on as the gyro wont initalise properly otherwise) youre done, you should now just check the gain to make sure it is at the highest possible without wagging the tail.

The gyro should now be setup to its optimum, so fly the model and have fun!

              Cheers,
              Pete.
