  • Problems with CSM 560 micro - help please!

I've just bought and fitted a CSM 560 micro (Revision 3) and Futaba S3153MG tail servo to replace the stock gyro & servo on my Blade 400. Now the heli was flying fine but suffering a bit of drift with the stock servo hence the alleged 'upgrade'.
I've gone through the set up procedure umpteen times now and all to no avail, it turns left left as soon as it lifts off. After the last attempt to go through the set up procedure it now turns left and goes forward at the same time. I've checked the tail servo linkage to make sure the horns at 90 deg. and the same at the tail end. I've checked and double checked the swash plate is level and that all my trims are set to zero.
Basically I've spent most of the day trying to get this thing set up and I'm getting pretty pi**ed off.
So far it's worse than with the stock set up so any advice gratefully received.

Ps. Could it be that depsite the Futaba servo being digital the gyro is too fast for it and I should set the gyro to standard mode?

    Bad luck Graham,
What happened to the 401 I sold to you? The 560 should be more than capable though.
1). Ensure that you have no trim or sub-trim on the rudder.
    2) Set the gyro in 'Rate' mode and move the servo along the boom until you get the heli to sit in a hover (or as close as you can).
    3) Set the gyro into 'Heading Hold' mode.

The gyro certainly won't be causing the heli to move forward! You may have to trim this out on your Tx.
Is the gyro new? Have you mounted it using the correct mounting pad? Are there any vibrations in the heli.
The last 2 points can cause the tail to drift.
    Adrian.

Adrian, the situation was I'd already put a bid in on ebay for the 560 before you posted the 401's for sale. I don't like cancelling bids but not knowing if I'd be out bid I jumped at the 401 when it came up. Sod's law didn't get out bid on the 560 so ended up with 2 gyro's.
I decided to go with the 560 in the Blade and use the 401 in a Raptor 50 I'm rebuilding.
Thanks for the advice re the CSM, depsite it having a brand new main gear & shaft there was bad vibration in the heli so I swapped these out for two more new parts and that seemed to cure the vibration. I didn't realise you set the tail servo on the boom using rate mode I've been trying to set everything up straight off the bat in HH mode. I know it's something I'm doing, it alway's is, I just can't figure out what!

The guy at my LHS set this gyro up as best he could and it appears to work fine in HH mode but in rate mode the tail servo moves really slowly. Does anyone have any idea's as to why thi might be, tail servo is a Futaba S3153MG. Works at full speed in HH and on a servo tester but at what looks like half speed, or less in Rates mode!

When you are in HH mode, and move the stick so the servo goes one way, then flick back into rate mode the servo should go fast straight back to the middle at full speed.
This proves that the gyro is actually driving the servo with full speed capability in rate mode.
I seem to remember from my old big grey 560 there was some strange thing about the servo speed when you moved the stick - but in the air it behaved perfectly.

Noqw you have it working in HH mode so it hovers, switch to rare mode and it will probably turn slowly. If it is only slow don't bother adjusting the linkage or sliding the servo jus flick in and out of rate mode and HH a few times and it will end up self adjusted so the heli doesn't urn in rate mode or hh mode.

NOTE if you when changing from rate to HH you are also changing flight mode be absolutely sure there is no rudder trim set as the trim is independant in each flight mode. Better to switch the gyro on the gear switch rather than the flight mode switch for this reason - so you can change rate and hh independant of flight mode.

the described 'problem' of slow movement in rate mode is normal. It won't do it in the air.

On my TX I had the gain set for 73% in Position 0 and 40% in Position 1, I reduced the gain in Position 1 to 35% and the servo now appears to have full travel at normal speed, does that sound about right or do I really need a higher gain value in Position 1 (Rate Mode?), this in on the Flap/Gyro switch on my DX6i. If I need a higher gain and as Ashley has said it won't affect it in flight then I'll set it at whatever you guy's recommend.
Thanks for your help so far it's greatly appreciated having come from cars with only 2 channels to worry about these heli's are a bit more complicated!

go with the destructions, I think they say 65% end point on both to start.
Then increase until it wags and back off a bit.
I set rate and HH to the same number on all my helis but I don't fly much in rate mode - only by accident - but then it seems too work well enough for me to fudge it round some manoevres before I realise there is something wrong....
