  • Stupid question of the day

How do i tell what way up the magnets go Align rce660 governor.

dunno about align but with CSM revloc the polarity doesn't matter.
I'd assume if it says nothing in the instructions about correct polarity then it doesn't make a difference either way

and if it did matter the magnets would be marked + and -

opposites attract so stick them together and mark the top of the first with a cross or something and the bottom of the bottom one with a hash. then when you split them mark the insides.

Plug it all in and test the sensor against both sides of a magnet (watch for the light changing colour on the gyro).

I'm sure (from memory) it is sided so they need to be the right way around if you're only installing one magnet

        Cheers,

Hi Rob are you saying i only need install one magnet for the align governor?
I understand that if i pass the sensor over the magnet that a lite will illuminate yes? Great will do that then lol wish me luck.

The sensor only picks up one pole, not sure if it's north or south but it doesn't really matter. You can get away with only fitting one magnet but you must install it the right way up, otherwise the sensor won't pick it up. If you follow Boggy's advice then you are guaranteed to have one of them right plus as you've fixed both it will balance out nicely

As chemicalbro says, CSM governors don't care which pole passes the sensor so CSM will sell you a dummy brass magnet (which isn't magnetic ) to fix in the other hole to balance out, although with the weight of the magnet I can't believe it makes a huge amount of difference whether you fit the dummy or not.

                no problems at all

Hi Rob Worked a treat mate thank you. One reason for this problem i was going to use revloc 30 then changed my mind as we often do lol. Now i find the sensor does not line up with the magnets in the clutch bell on the 700 so now i need a stand off and longer bolts lol. Is this right on the 700 or have i done something wrong?

On the 700 the sensor sits entirely inside the frames using the mountings provided - so it should all line up if fitted correctly oriented.
Can you post any pics of what you've got so far?

                    Cheers,

                      Hi Rob
Sorry no i don't own a camera. I did mount the sensor then found that
when i turned the clutch bell the light stayed the same but with the sensor
removed and held over the magnet it pulsed.

Sounds like the sensor is too far away from the magnet?
Or as you suggested, it's not lining up??

As I recall, simply mounting the sensor inside the frames means the magnet will pass under the sensor so it should all just work. I take it everything is mounted the correct way around (the sensor could, I guess, be mounted facing the wrong way?).

                        Cheers,

When I fitted the revlock to mine Rob I found I had to turn the sensor 90 deg to the frames for it to work.

from memory the mounting bracket on the Align governor already takes that into account.
                          All the best
                          Tony.

Hi Rob / Tony We are talking about the Trex 700 yes? I know the bracket lines straight up on the 600 but the 700 has the magnets fitted to the clutch bell not the fan And this makes the distance a lot further .

Yes mate - talking about the 700.
I fitted the Align governor to mine (when I had it) and just mounting the sensor per the description in the manual/sheet instructions worked perfectly for me.

I'm not sure what else to tell you - the sensor is mounted inside the frames.
The sensor mount is a little plastic moulded piece that is screwed to the frames and then the sensor is screwed to the mount.

If the sensor is mounted the correct way around, it can't fail but be positioned over the magnet in the clutch bell - to the best of my recollection!

                              Cheers,
                              Rob
