sorry to rain on the 401s parade but after recent price hikes there are far better gyros for the same money, like the CSM 720, someone already mentioned spartan etc etc

Personally I wouldn't pay out on a 401 when you can get a far better gyro for around the same outlay.

      I agree with Ash.

I've just a fitted a CSM 720 on my 450 with a HS 5084. This combo is £127 from Hobby Hanger and it is spot on. I've flown quite a few 450's now but not one with a tail this good.

I'm not sure what cheaper ones to suggest, so will leave that question for someone else to answer, but I would say that having a solid tail is really important, especially when you're learning.

As an example, I have a Twister CP that I like because its very crash resistant, but it has a really poor tail on it and it's easily the most difficult heli I fly.

For a nice and simple gyro to setup and use then the GY401 is a good choice.

As the GY401 price has gone up dramatically its now in the CSM 720 band. It requires a more finely tuned setup but will then fly very well indeed.

          Choices, choices.

i cant fault my Align GP750, easy to set up and will work on the smallest to biggest helis.

            i paid £89 for it.

I run a 401 & 9257 on my 450. I can stab full pitch in from a hover and she will rocket up with zero tail kick! It will also fly side on in a very strong wind it holds its direction spot on. Fast piros will snap back into a sudden halt. I cant speak for very advanced tricks but I sure It would cope fine. I have seen a 401 9257 combo on ebay for under 100 sqids so it is my choice anyway.

if i can get a new 401 an servo for arount £100 id be happy but not going to buy a gyro for a while well not until ive brought the 450 anyways it may be a slow build as money is tight and trying to complete the trex 450 for under £450

I would tend to agree with the recent price hikes new, but secondhand will still be great value.

I'm not keen on that one for 450 use, it's fine on the bigger helis but not quite right on a 450.
