    Hi all ,
first time on forum, hope someone can help.I have a 401 & 9254 on my raptor and its been runnin really well up to the other day.I was hovering in HH when the the tail kicked right about 90 degrees so I landed, checked gyro and servo were working correctly the took of again. After about a minuit the same thing happend again so I did the sensible thing and went home.
At home I found the servo acting odd,it will only work if i give it a tap but then it will only go full over then stop,if i move the rudder stick really fast the servo will keep going but if i stop i have to give it a tap.Is this fault a common thing on these servo's and is it fixable?
Sorry if ive gabbled on a bit but i don't now how else to explain it.
    Thanks
    Steve

    check this:- http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/f30/92...-repair-16421/
I take it everything is charged up fine (ie RX battery etc)?
Open it up and double check because thats exactly how mine was behaving. I only noticed mine when i got teh heli back home and on the bench. Was working fine on the field then when i landed and went to take off again i had no tail control. How old is the servo? Defo sounds faulty and i wouldnt try and fly the heli again if its doing that. If it is that then its fixable but you better have good soldering skills. In the end i just chucked mine in the spares box for gears etc. Might not be this but id definately check it out as its showing the signs.
    Cheers

      Check your battery first.

tail is the first thing to suffer.

then send the servo to ripmax and wait 15 years for them to charge at least 500% of the cost of parts.

I've got 2 helis with 9254 on the tail. I'll be watching this thread with great interest.

Well ive been put right off them after my little incident, i didnt even know it was common either. I knew there were other issues but if you look at the thread i just posted and see the pics. You can see that its such a clean break on the lead. That was inside the servo case itself and behind the rubber boot. The servo isnt very old at all either. The scarey thing was it was flying perfect before hand. Experience told me to land as soon as i seen the tail giving a kick. Ill be putting BL251's or 8900's on my tails from now on.
          Cheers

Hi thanks Made2Fade , the battery was fully charged so that's not the problem as to how old it is I don't know because I bought the rappy second hand.I really hope it's fixable because there's no way I can afford a new one at the moment

Best take it apart then and have a look then. Even if it isnt the same issue i wouldnt fly the helicopter again If your getting issues when tapping it then i would definately look at something loose or what have ya inside.

Had the same happen on a Raptor 50 a couple of years ago. I wasn't sure if it was the gyro or servo so bought a servo tester which cycled it for an hour or so with no problems. Refixed the 9254 and flew it again - tail let go and another crash Replaced the servo and no more problems.

If nothing else there seems to have been a bad batch or two of 9254's, there's a very long thread on RunRyder discussing the high failure rate.

When i say tapping it I mean the servo horn not the servo which makes me think it's not a loose connection but something inside thats failed.
                  Thanks

Brill...thanks Steve So the servo tester didn't fail it??? Hmmm, now I'm thinking about replacing mine, although they have been on my Swift & Raptor for at least 18 months / 2 yrs, so I hope any fault will have shown by now.

Mine wasnt a new servo, it just hadnt been used much at all... the servo itself was about a year and a half old.

A typical servo failure is a burnt commutator on the motor or a faulty feedback pot. Both result in a dead spot where the servo will not move. When flying vibration in the airframe causes the servo to jump a bit and appear to continue to working. I have had a similar failure of a 9254.

Either you send it for repair or hide it in the rubbish bin or take it to an approved weeeee or whatever the eu calls the place to take defunct electrical items.
