Has anyone used this gyro http://www.sportsmoto.co.uk/acatalog...yro_G401B.html is it as good as the Futaba I was thinking of getting one for the price.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

I just bought an align RCE600 for my trex500.
I'm hoping this is a good bet for a cheap gyro - I haven't tried it yet.

If you are prepared to risk loosing your entire heli setup to the imminent failure of a cheap Chinese copy of the Futaba 401, then yeah, I'm sure it will be just what you're looking for.

Sorry Jim but that looks very tacky and would never get a place on any of my helis.

I may be proved wrong but not I won't be chancing it.

Might be wise to consider the Align RCE 600 gyro, its a similar price and has more of a proven track record.

Looks can be deceiving though and this 401B may well be OK.Would be interested to hear any thoughts if you do go for one.

Another alternative is to source a used 401,they pop up pretty regularly on here or BMFA and expect to pay no more than £50 for one,the genuine article.

Hi jim I started this post to see if anyone had tried the gyro as I would't buy without it being tested as I've already managed to buy two 2nd 401 gyro's in the past.

It is not possible to produce and sell a gyro comparable to the GY401 at this price. Based on the price of gyro sensors alone (which I am very familiar with everything in existance) I am preaty sure that major shortcuts have been taken on the electronic design. The only similar thing is probably the shape of the plastic case to try and fool people. If you want a GY401 my advice is to buy the original part.

                              Hiya,

that may well be true, however on the forums it seems peoples experience of this particular bit of kit seems to be very positive indeed.

I posted about this on the Blade 400 section of this site as well, for most people with a RTF heli this may well still be an upgrade from the standard, undoubtedly very cheap, Gyro which came with their heli.

Based on the info elsewhere I think I'll be giving this a go in the NY, I can understand people with large very expensive helis buying a cheap gyro isnt worth it, but for those of us with sub £200 machines it may well be a significant improvement over the stock.

                              Cheers
