  • struggling with DX7 gyro set up

    Guys,

I've read the manual but am struggling with setting up the DX7 / gyro combination on my mini pred.

In short, I've set up my mini pred with the DX7 AR7000 combo following a problem with the supplied 35 MHz radio. Anyway, once all the binding and servo set up was completed I had a problem with the tail wagging badly (it was fine before) so I turned the gain down, and down and down until it was set to minimum on the gyro itself: and still wagging madly in flight.

I've read the manual and am confused about dialing in gain values via the tx. I've got the gain/mode lead plugged in to Aux 2 (Ch7) and have set the Aux 2 Ch on the tx to GYRO. I've dialled in some rates of 25% and 75% accordingly but am confused about the importance of the values set in the tx versus the setting on the gyro itself (set with a screwdriver). (I previously thought that the gyro gain/mode setting was effectively just switch to select HH or rate mode and that gain was set manually)

I'll need to understand the gyro / tx combination when I set up the Raptor with a GY401 so any help now would be much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    What gyro?

    Another 401?

If so there is no gain setting on the gyro itself. The gain is set inside the DX7 itself. I've not used a DX7 so I'm not sure where though.

I imagine you are just adjusting the travel or delay pot on the gyro

Is it a standard gyro that comes with the mini Pred? Does it have a gain control on it? I wonder if there is an element of adding the gain twice maybe

I have the Gyro mode disabled on the DX7 and use the end point settings on the Gear channel switch to set the gain remotely. Never did quite get my head around the Gyro function in the tx. The setting of end points (and therefore gyro gain) via the gear switch seemed more straightforward for my under resourced processor to cope with

If there is a gain on the gyro, have you tried switching it off or disabling it in some way?

Plug it into channel 5 not Aux2. Set channel 5 to Gear (not gyro). Then use the channel 5 end point values to set your gain. Flicking the gear switch will change you from heading hold to rate mode. What gyro is it your trying to setup?

        Cheers

Lee .. it is the one that comes with the mini pred .. I used to run one with a 9257 and it was pretty good as cheap gyros go ... has one pot on the top with gain on it and thats it ... rest u have to either set up mechanically or thru the Tx ....

Oh did ya like my joke txt ?? ....

Sorry guys. Mike was right its the bog standard mini pred gyro that does have a gain dial on the top. Still a little confused but will give the GEAR lever a try.

Either way its done the same way as i described above but you just set the gain with the pot instead of the End-Points id imagine. Just leave the End-Point's to default 100/100 in the TX. You really should stick a 401 on it
                Cheers

Yes, and I really should drive a BMW 5 series but I can fund that either!

Have got her flying albeit still on the AUX 2 channel. Seems okay for now, will try some proper flying, rather than survival-hovering in the gusty back garden as soon as the weather is favorable!

Yeah, I'd love a really well sorted TREX 450 or 500 but I just can't fund it right now. Having spent a fair wedge on the Raptor 50 Titan I'm keen to use the mini pred as a cheap go-between (between the Rappy and Phoenix) that I can use in quiet moments to assimilate what I've learned before playing with the big beast.
