Right today was the perfect day to test out and fully set up my Align GP700 gyro combo.
I have given initial thoughts on this before but as ther was no replies/questions i assume no one saw it.
Right then Heli, k3d, align 610 cyclics, torsions, nhp tails, kermit paddles, redline and mp5.
Tail servos used 9254 (old faithful) and align 620
Initial thoughts align servo too slow, bloody annoying wag at the back kicks round on hh. Found that problem i had delay on and it was in analogue mode

Next problem (yes there were plenty) align servo pads are poo, transmitting an oscillation to the gyro which equates to big old labrador effect at the back. Swapped those out for Spartan pads, Same again, even goodold futaba pads did the same. Now wether or not i have a vibe issue still on the heli im unsure but the tail fin wich is flimsy at best is rock solid in the hover ( i spent all week chasing out the vibes!! Turned out it was engine too rich well it is less than a gallon old!).
New solution to that is ONE layer of 3m rubbery double sided tape, spartan isolation plate, another layer of tape then gyro. Worked a charm. No annoyingness and rock solid tail.
Now on to flying, when you set this gyro up on the bech youll prolly notice that when you adjust end points in the gyro the slider WILL not cover the ull travel, This concerned me some what but i just dismissed it as a trait of the gyro (it is btw).
To get the gyro dialled in i used the 9254 on a step down (my cyclics are on 6v) with the 6 sided arm with the ball on the outer hole. the most gain i could get before wagging was 35% which in my mind is too low so i moved to the middle hole and got 58% and on the inner hole i got 78% when i was flying about the best option seemed to be the inner hole as it held by far the best, it still gave a slight kick when really punching the collective (tic tocs) but it was dragged into line very sharpish and in normal sports flying i couldnt fault the tail at all.
The piro rate is more consistant than the 401 which has a tendancy to whip around at the start point. (some thing i never noticed till Steve Gerrard pointed out a while ago!). But by no means is it a patch on a spartan or 611 etc. During funnels and pie dishes the tail was easy to control and stayed where it needed to be with no signs of blowing out and even when i upped the pace of the pie dish to a poor wall of death it still held firm.(Trust me my 3d is very poor!! LOL).
So after that tank of fuel i refitted the align servo and i must say im dissapointed, i couldnt get the gains i wanted with the same servo horn and the tail just felt sloppy, it held well and did everything i asked of it it just didnt feel right. So the 9254 is going back in as we speak.
My view on the gyro, a bloody good try by align/savox or whoever makes it but its just not gonna trouble the big boys. Value for money without a shadow of doubt get this gyro over the 401 any day but if your into hardcore 3d go with something better. If youdo buy this gyro and servo combo my advice is to use the servo as a throttle servo and get a bls251/8900g as the best option or any of the well known and reliable tal servos just dont use the align one, it just isnt fast enough to keep up with what is a bloody good gyro and im sure as word gets out it will become the new benchmark overtaking the 401.
