  • Futaba bls servo's

Guys i have just received my bls servos and i was browsing over the box and on the back it says nicad use only

does this mean i cant use the lipo that came with the 600nsp

will i need to use a step down for the 251 as it is only 4.8v and the 451 are 6v or can u adjust the align regulator (i haven't read the align manual yet)

    Cheers in advance

nicad only is a throw back from the days when some people used alkaline batteries for their rx packs.

bls 251 will be fine on a 6v reg but not a 5 cell nicad.

Did it not occur to you to check out the specs of the servos before you purchased them?

does this mean i cant use the lipo that came with the 600nsp
But you wont be doing this as the battery is connected to the Align regulator first!

      RTFM.

The output from the Align regulator can be used to supply all Futaba servos and receivers.

Carpman youll be fine, for peace of mind id fit a step down myself to the tail, although it will be ok on 6v. The 2 in 1 output is a regulated 5.8v and it can drop to 5.6 under load but generally its pretty good

WTF? are you sure? What is the point of BMFA doing that?

Nicad batteries will be illegal for sale in the EEC fairly soon i know that. Its because they have heavy metals in them and the niMH are easier to recycle.
There is absolutely no point what so ever of banning the use of nicads that have already been manufactured, and they have proven to be reliable for the last 20 years. They have been made so they may as well be used.
NiMH are better now anyway, particularly the new ones that don't self discharge.

I'm running the 251 with the step down in place just to be sure, it doesn't weigh anything so I felt it was better to be safe than sorry with an £80 servo.

This is why cordless power tools are switching to Lithium Ion batteries, no more nicads and nimhs just aren't up to the job. I notice most of the manufacturers now offer LiIon chargers and packs for their 18V tools, the price is a little scary though.
