  • HItec HS-5245MG on Trex 500 nackered??

    Hi
While checking out my 500 after a crash and making a list of parts
I've notice that one of the 5245 servos has a bit of play in the horn and when there's no power to the servo it seems to lock
ie I can move the other two gently through their 60% but this one is locked solid,
Power back on and it works ok apart from a very small amount of play on the horn

I've opened it and all the gears seem ok [no teeth missing]

    Is it knackered!

    Cheers

Sounds Knackered.... It could be when it impacted that the force against the servo notched the bearings and it goes tight because the shaft twists at the point where there is a notch in the bearing causing the final gear and output shaft to go tight...

check the bearings in the servo with it in bits for notchyness... that maybe will help the decision...

        Think I've found the problem,,

        Bearings ok but
the hole in the top casing that locates the pin holding the central transfer gear is oval which must be alowing the gears to get out of line and jam up,
looks like I'll have to get a new complete servo for the sake of a top casing,,

That will be your problem, the same happened to mine. That part of the case top is a weak spot

You can get a new case for about £4. It is also possible to upgrade the gear axle with piano wire, which makes it almost unbreakable ! Its the Manufacturer Stock#
56342 that you want (I know it doesn't say for 5245, but trust me!)

Very common on these servos, but a servo case for a 5245 is cheaper than a gear set for a 9650 and harder to break.
