    Oh and SLOW DOWN PETE!
    Adrian.
Haha! Cheers mate. Yeah, I never knew about the umbrella gear trick either (cheers Barney) and thinking about it now I do have a fair amount of play in the TT system. Hhhmmm, could this have been my problem? I'm 100% positive ive never touched the tail blades on the ground and run them pretty loose so a few things to look at I think.

it wasn't a defensive answer, it was an honest one. i'm sorry if you take offence with that and trex pedro i'm sorry for trying to help.

      cheers
Hey, no offence taken by me at all gents, in fact, I'm happy for the suggestions which is the reason for the post in the first place!

If anything its very interesting as I know for a fact these gears have never been stressed by the tails hitting the deck, and it 100% happened in flight. I checked the heli this evening including all gears. It happened half way through the first tank with a loud repetitive clicking. I immediatley knew something was up so landed and found both the umbrella and upright gear totally shredded.

Maybe Evo Andy is right the and the Spartan is that good? Coupled with my less than perfect skills with trying new piro moves resulted in this happening?

Anyway, I flew on regardless with a new gearset and went home a happy bunny! Going to check for end play in the TT train to eliminate that though.

      Cheers everyone.

well, i've got many many hours on spartan gyros on 450s, 500, 600, 700 and synergys and never once have i thought the stops are going to kill tail gears.

i would be 99.99999999% confident in saying the gyro stops never done this and i would look elsewhere incase you have an underlying issue. if you can't find any problems then i would be happy to fly the gyro in stock format myself but for your own peace of mind please feel free to turn the stop gain and or the decel slider down a tad.

        cheers

I would have thought that this would be virtually impossible to be the fault of the gyro.
As all the gyro can do is change the pitch of the tail blades at the end of the day.
It is either down to the design of the gears themselves (soft material) or something wrong in the assembly (no offence Pete).
It would be a bit like saying the brakes on my car were so good that when I applied them the car stopped so suddenly that it broke the chassis.
It wouldn't be a case of the brakes are too good but the chassis being too poor.
Thats how I see it anyway.

Not sure I agree with that Ade. I've found quite a bit today about the 611 stressing the gear train when the stops are not softened resulting in similar problems. With the Spartan being the latest technology I'm assuming the same applies? Surely the energy from the tail has to be transfered somewhere which in this case is the sacrificial TT gears.

The 611 is known to have potentially very hard stops which can kill gear trains.

                Cheers,
