  • Align Govenor Missing A Beat

    Hi Guys,

    Maidened the new 600 today, and so far its as expected.. A couple of turns on the links and its solid as a rock in the hover. Just about run in the engine now, so it is almost ready for some real flying!

    However.... It started missing a beat or two. Turned out with a bit of investigation from ChrisB that the Governor is not quite right. Its set as follows:

    N = 1800
    I1 = 2000
    I2 = 2100

    Everything seems to be working with regards to the polarity of the magnets etc, but it sounds as if the sensor is not picking up the magent around mid stick. The sensor is secure on the heli and the plugs into the governor itself are secure.

    I have not taken the engine out yet to check the magnets and fan so cant comment on that at this point.

    Has anyone else experienced this sort of thing?

    Rgds

    what are your throttle curve as the governor WILL NOT activate untill at least 50% throttle mine are set at 60% at mid stick to ensure its always working

    throttle curves are 0,inh,60,inh,100 normal
    100,inh,70,inh,100 iu 1 and 2

    pitch -10,-5,0,5,10 normal and iu1
    -12,-6,0,6,12 iu2 and hold

      We upped the centre point of the throttle curve to 65 but the problem was still there. Only time we could stop it from happening was turning the Gov off.

      Your idea was Chris's first suspicion as to what the problem could be.

        Aidi

        I have been turning this one over in my mind a bit and i am baffled,i have had magnets/sensors play up before and the governor will revert to curves upon losing a signal from the sensor for whatever reason,the curves in your TX would send the RPM UP not DOWN,your engine is hunting and the RPM is dropping out.

        Hopefully more people will throw their input in as well.

        The only time i have seen similar symptoms have been when i have been unlucky enough to fly a heli with a CSM governor fitted(hard hat) but its true,they seem very finicky and if the gain isnt right they hunt the RPM,thats why i wouldnt give them any time of day.

        Your RPM is dropping and hunting,now i personally suspect the governor itself.

        If you go right over it tonight we can play tomorrow.

        We can try my Align governor off my 700 on it,just leave your sensor in place,we could then try your governor unit on my 700 to see if fault migrates to that.Also i have a spare Throttle Jockey we could fit to your 600 in a few mins to try that..

        After all that flying today my brain is pretty fried but i am sure with some logical thought and sleeping on it,we can sort it tomorrow

        Await more ideas from others.

              Problem found... Sensor had broken. Where it bends at a right angle to pick up the magnet, it was only just hanging on and when wiggled it just fell off! I must have knocked it when inserting the engine. Spare now on order, so should be back and flying to test it on Tuesday!

              Thanks for the suggestions... I just hope this was the cause of the st..st..stuu stuttering!

                      Hmmmm.
                      Thats got me wondering now if that is the problem I have with my 700.
                      I noticed it hunts as well.
                      How can I test to see if the sensor is OK?
                      I have a multimeter. Is it a passive device that I could measure its resistance?
                      Adrian.
