  • Spartan Case Fail !!!!!

    Ok everyone,

One of the guys I fly with unfortunately had a Spartan case apart on him and then two weeks later his second one did the same thing. We put it down to experience but was still concerned about it. Then a couple of days ago I heard of another one of my heli mates had the same thing happen. (in a completely different part of the country.) So why should I be concerned. Well I have no beef to bear with any one in this hobby but as I play a fairly big part in the running of my local club, the thing that most concerns me is safety. Therefore I believe wholeheartedly that this is a safety matter.

If you are running a Spartan Gyro on a nitro model, quite possible a Knight where the gyro is mounted at the rear of the model, check your case. Put a Velcro strap round it for piece of mind.

This post is in now way set out to damage the reputation of Spartan but I have mulled i over for the last couple of day as to whether I should put this up or not and believe that someone has to pipe up and warn people

Please do not shoot me down for raising this.

The picture below is of how it happens. Don't get caught out!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Cheers Matt

matt, thanks for posting the info.

have you told the owner of that to contact angelos? (he is in ircha this week btw).

it is excellent advice to put a velcro strap over any gyro imo as i've seen a fury lost when a 601 sensor came apart aswell. i've had a mishap when the foam failed once on a 611 and the only thing that kept my heli in one piece was a velcro strap holding the gyro on till i got it down.

      cheers

Means cutting holes in the frame on a Knight though...

Are you running a knight 3d? If so put the strap fwd and aft. Small one like an align or if you don't like that name you can get them from B&Q

Your gyro will be fine. The Spartan 760 is a superb bit of kit. It's just merely a heads.

On my knight50 3D there is a small gap between the main frames and the gyro mount plate, so the velcro goes through there.
My CSM720 seems to benefit from the velcro compressing the foam slightly.

What happens when the case splits apart like that?

I take it the gyro either ends up in the main rotor if the lead allows it or the tail goes absolutely crazy?

my 401 fell off the underneath of my 450 when they come off what a mess regardless off height.
I have freinds who have just bought the spartan and will be buying one myself so i will use velcro.

imo you should velcro down EVERY gyro. i do not trust gyro tape as far as i can throw it.

i normally buy the little sticky circular bits of velcro from b&q and stick it on the gyro with a normal strap over that one, it doesn't need to be tight, it is not there to improve performance for the most part (altough csm's like it there i have found).

                            cheers
