  • servo dilemma

After suffering a recent 'incident' with one of my T700's, the worst culprit is my cyclic servos.

JR 8915's, all 3 cyclic servos are sloppy, I.E the sacrificial composite gear hasn't sheered, but the metal gear set has clearly swollen!

New gearset's are £35 each, so £105 to repair all 3?

Do i cut my losses and go for a different set of servos, maybe there are others around that are more economical to repair.

Ive been out of the scene for a couple of years, so not sure what's what.

    Thanks. col.

That's a hell of a lot to spend on what is really an old servo when a bit more added could get you a new set
Me I would look for something new rather than spend that getting new gears
      just my view though

Whichever route you go it may be worth looking to see if you can get some sacrificial servo horns on there. A servo horn that fails before the gears is much more economical to repair.

I know there are dedicated sacrificial horns available, but the guys on the RCHN podcast swear by the SAB plastic servo horns and use them on more than just Goblin helis. Apparently they're plenty strong enough for even hard 3D flight, but in the event of a crash will slip long before you damage any gears. They've said more than once that they haven't had any servo gear damage at all since switching to those, with servos that have now survived multiple crashes with no slop or gear issues whatsoever.

Don't have a specific link I'm afraid, I do use sacrificial horns on my 360's, but I haven't used them myself on anything larger, I just know I've heard the guys on RCHN mention them more than once. Justin, Nick and Jessie all swear by them.
