  • Futaba GY401 or JR G770T?

I am fed up with the stock gyro on my Twister 3D Storm and having to constantly chase the tail on it. I have upgraded the tail servo to a Futaba S3153, but it still doesn't hold great.

I know it isn't an expensive heli, but I have decided to splash more on a better gyro to improve the tail.

I was going to go for the much recommended GY401 but due to stock issues (and a lot of angry emails from myself to the supplier) I have been given a free upgrade to a JR G770T.

From what I have read it sounds like a good move to me if I can follow the instructions carefully when setting the G770T up. I think that the G770T should probably be overkill on my heli (and at my current level of flying) so I am hoping the tail will be rock solid, but I haven't got a JR 8900g servo so will the S3153 be OK still?

What do you guys think? Good move or not?

    Cheers

    Gary.

I think it's a great move mate, as for the technical issues I don't know.

Be sure to bring it tonight so I can have a gander.

Apparently it will be in the air today. Hopefully get it early next week.

Keep us posted mate. I'd like to know how your Storm flies with the new gyro.

The 770T is a very good gyro, but it's quite agressive on stops, so make sure you put 50% expo in the rudder channel to start off with. Sounds alot but it will be fine.

The gyro doesn't like too much mechanical gain either so if you are stuggling and it's wagging then come in on the servo horn.

I think the mechanical setup is good. The existing gyro doesn't have any travel adjustment so it has to be done with the mechanical setup. I have just enough throw on my servo horn to reach both end stops without binding.

Out of interest I also have my mechanical settings so that I have roughly 7 degrees (just enough to counteract the main blades in a basic hover) when the tail slider is in the middle position. Should I keep this setting, or set the blades to zero degrees at the mid position? i.e. will this help or hinder the gyro?

            Thanks

            Gary.

I would definitely start with a bit of counter pitch. Hover it in rate mode and adjust until the drift is minimal. Then switch to HH.

If you find the gyro wags then lower the gain, if it stops wagging but starts to drift then reduce mechanical gain.

              Have fun
