  • Servo suggestions

    Hi guys,

Im scrambling my brain here as im looking at upgrading my servos for my evo 50.

Its the mech mix one not the ccpm, so am looking for decent servos that will see me good without causing me to sell a kidney to get them etc.

Obviously I want a good torquey one for the collective and something thats got a bit of whizz for the cyclics.

Again budget isnt overly high, but am willing to spend oooo upto £1.99 for each one

Seriously though, looking for something that could also be ok on 6V as thinking along the lines of going that route at some point too.

im into the 3D, not overly far in learning it as yet, but as I progress dont want to be having to keep upgrading as I go.
Dont intend going completely mad in 3D but things like hurricanes, piro funnels and the likes but no real stick banging stuff.

At the mo, ive got 3010's on the cyclics and collective, so can see im a bit behind the times, but with those I have done a few tic tocs, attempted a few piro flips (messy but still piro flips LOL!) and general lobbing it all over the place etc, so want something that will help me progress as I just dont feel comfortable with those servos now as I feel theyre making me weary etc.

So any help would be ideal

    Mark.

PS. been looking at Futaba's but know there are other brands so im not exclusive to futaba in case there are any other suggestions.
Seen some JR ones and some Ace servos on fastlad (the ace ones) but never heard of anyone using them.

The servo choice is up to you - there are many good servos out there.

    IMO:
    Good: Futaba 9452 or BLS451
    Better: Futaba 9351 or BLS351
    Best: JR 8717

I have just bought 3 new Futaba 9452 servo's from the Heli Hobby in the states and thought you may be interested in the prices.

Various suppliers in UK - between £69 and £79 + shipping (£10 approx)

    Helihobby in the states - $69 = £35 + shipping
    Shipping cost from states - $32 = £16.34
    Customs charges - £21
Parcel force handling fee! = £15
    Delivery time - 6 days

So buying the servo's in the UK would have cost approx £217-£247

Buying them from the states cost me £157.34, a saving of between £60 and £89 which i think is worth waiting an extra few days for.

It just depends how much you are willing to spend but in the UK you will be looking to spend at least £40-£80 to get a good quality servo.

      Thanks Steve,

Had thought about ordering from overseas as the prices in both the states and the far east are seriously less money than over here, so could easily get better servos for the price of lower spec ones from over here where id end up annoyed I wish I could have got better.

        Have you tried Inwoods? www.inwoodmodels.co.uk

Got my 3152's for less than anywhere in the world!!

Don't know about the 9452's though. Might be worth asking them.

        Cheers

Check out http://www.neogl.com/ in Hong Kong. Delivery time will be approximately 4 days and you will get a tracking number for Hong Kong post.

Alot of people are using George and are not getting caught out with Customs charges.

Also do not discount the Futaba S9252 or S9255 servos.

The S3152 will not do as a collective servo on the Evo 50. It will not last. If you want a cheap servo then you would actually be better off using the S9202.

            Cheers guys,

Have been looking through NEOGL and also RCPowerSupply.com and they have good prices,

Noticed the CCPM conversion kit for the evo 50 too on RCpowersupply as have been tempted to swap my mech mix one to that so then all the servos are sharing the collective strain etc. Any thoughts on that?

            Mark

            Edit:

Actually thinking about it, for the price of the CCPM conversion, I could just change 1 of the 9452's for a brushless 451 which has oodles of torque so would easily handle the collective.
