  • Futaba BLS351 vs BLS451

Whats the difference between these two? The only difference i can see is the 451 is a bit quicker on 6v (0.10 vs 0.12). And both have metal gears. However, the 351 is about a tenner more expensive and more people seem to use them at competition level. How come?

    Cheers

Thats what I thought but I have read other posts about the 351 being the choice between the two. I think Ade Law mentioned getting them on the Odin 90. I will have to ask him next time we meet at the club field!

Cheers mate. Just been on Futaba website and your spot on. The 451 has 147oz-in and the 351 has 210oz-in.

Suppose its a small trade off for speed vs more torque. Is speed more important than torque?

            Hi Pete.

The way to think about it is if you have enough torque then speed becomes your goal. BUT you must have enough torque first.

Torque should be the deciding factor. Under heavy loads in 3D if your servo doesn't have enough torque the heli becomes less accurate in stops. However because CCPM helis share the torque between all 3 cyclic servos in theory you can run lighter torque servos which may mean more speed becomes available to you.

If you are an Alan Szabo wannabee and doing "crack" manouvres then speed is pretty important too.

              Cheers Richie.

Just getting my head around this! I'm no Alan Szabo but I reckon I could take Rivas!!

Thanks for the reply. Makes sense.

im running 351 in the knight at the moment. I would have got 451 but there werent any around when i wanted them i havnt flown the 451 either so cant compare them inflight.

what i can say is that the 351 just dont slow down, ever. I can pick the model up by the swash plate waggle the pitch up and down and the servos move at the same speed as the do with no load.

stupidly accruate too. xygax is working on a regulator that will put out up to 7.5v. I spoke to futaba and they say these servos are good for 7v regulated cant wait to try that!
