  • tail servo on x3

doing an x3 build, can i have some recommendations for a tail servo that is happy at 6v. On a bit of a budget, so nothing too deer if possible. Probably be using a spartan vx1e as fbl unit.
    thanks

KST 515 works on anything from 4.8 to 7.4 volts and has excellent performance for the money, looks sweet too

I'm slowly picking up parts for an X3 myself, for the tail I found a second hand DS95i, but that's not a budget servo :-) A lot of folks on helifreak really rate the TGY-306 servos. Apparently it's worth opening them up to do a couple of mods to prolong their life (foam insulation to protect the mainboard from case vibrations I believe), but they have a lot of fans with people running hundreds or thousands of flights with these on both cyclic and tail:

      TGY-306G-HV High Voltage Ultra Fast/High Torque MG Digital Alloy Cased Servo 3.7kg / .05sec / 21g

Since I'm doing this on a budget this is also still the top servo on my list for cyclic:
      Helis: Oxy 2 FE / Oxy 2 Sport / Protos 380 / Oxy 4 Max / Gaui X3 380mm
      Electronics:
      Spartan VX1e / Spartan VX1n / Spartan VX1p / MSH Brain2 mini / Jeti DS-14
      Sims: Realflight / AccuRC

you can change a couple of the gears in the 306 servo with ds95i gears and then it will have the performance of a ds95i, there is a thread on HF about it

I had a TGY-306G HV on mine, but I was getting wagging in backward flight an funnels, even at quite low gain settings. I switched to a DS95i and now my gain is much higher with no sign of any wag. The tail feels better, giving you the confidence fly it harder.

Best I've heard of, is the MKS 8910A+, that's supposed to be even better than the DS95i on the X3.

On a budget, I'd try the 306G for about £15 especially if you can get the DS95i gears in it, or an Align DS525M for about £25.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

TGV- 306G HV works fine with Vbar on my X3 tail. Also ok on cyclic but the output gear breaks in a hard crash usually.

Yeah, breakaway or sacrificial servo arms are recommended with them on the X3 cyclic.

Hi I have the align 525 on my x3, I can't tell you what it's like for 3d as I can't fly 3d, but fine for normal flying coupled to my kbar.
