  • New tail servo required :(

I have been chasing a tail problem on my Trex 550 DFC for a few weeks now and after re-locating the Beastx, moving the ball in on the servo horn, resetting end points, upping the gain etc, etc..Today i think i have finally found the culprit.
The Align DS655 tail servo feels really rough & notchy in one direction and smooth the other hence the reason i can't seem to eliminate the intermittent, unpredictable wag.
So it looks like i need a better quality tail servo and i'm thinking possibly Futaba?
Can anyone please recommend me a decent servo, preferably not HV as i'm running every thing off the 6s flight pack.

    Thanks,
    Dan.

What is the voltage supply to your radio gear?

Although you don't want HV the Futaba BLS256HV will run quite happily on 6 volts

I know you are looking at Futaba but I have had good luck with the MKS BLS980 and there is also a BLS990. Both of which can run quite happily on 6volts. Well a little more as I am using a LiFe pack and so far so good.

All servos are coming off my Talon 90 and beastx on standard 6s set up

So what is the bec output from the Talon? A 6S supply is ~25 volts which is not what is going to the beastx and servos.

Having had a little check I suspect you have the bec set for a 6 volt output. So any of the servos I have mentioned will do.

If you wanted to you can select an eight volt output from the bec and switch to using HV servos.

Have you checked the links are not to tight on the balls? Have you moved the ball out rather than in?

Just thinking of other things before you swap out but if its notchy one way you could have just done the gears inside? Take it apart and have a look.

My tail servos of choice are

            Futaba BLS256
            Futaba BLS254
            Futaba BLS251

              Thanks Andy
I will probably run a separate BEC eventually but want a servo i can plug straight in to my existing set up and continue using the same Align DS615's for the cyclics.
The MKS look good too, i have one on the tail of my newly acquired 500 so i will see how that performs.

I have moved the ball in not out and all links are running smooth.
I have been flying this from new since April time and have never had a crash. I will take it apart and have a look and check for any wear.
Could it also be that it wants some grease?

                Thanks,
                Dan.

Update: just dismantled the tail servo and i can't see any teeth missing etc... nothing obvious in the gearing anyway.
With my other helis i can hold the tail blades in each hand, altering the pitch, moving the pitch slider in and out and the servo will move freely, this one just keeps locking up!
I have a spare DS650 so will try that to eliminate the problem in the short term.
