  • Ready to set up electrics for 450 heli, Advice needed

Hi all, Ive finely got all my upgrades for my 450 SE V2 and now im getting ready to install everything onto my heli so i was hoping i might get some help and advice regarding certain things before i start. First of all i hate loads of wiring everywere so i would like to trim back most of the wiring from the Servo's, Gyro and the Sbec wire from the ESC to the receiver but was wondering if there would be any issues when doing so? For instance if i trimmed down the wires for my servo's would there be any noticable effects if all 3 servo's had different sized leads once i had trimmed them to size i want? If there would be any effect to my Gyro if i shortened any of the leads and if there would be any bad effects to my ESC if i shortened the Sbec lead to the receiver? I know this might seem like stupid questions to some but this is my first attempt at doing this and if i wanted to do it for my Nitro cars i know i wouldnt notice the effects but as im doing a heli i want to make sure i know what im doing and to do everything right first time out before i start chopping wires and adding new plugs but regret it after if it wasnt the best thing to do. I would be grateful for any help and advice on this matter and would apreciate any links to threads or uTube clips so i can find out as much info as i can about installing the electrics the best you can without having loads of untidy excess wiring all over the place. I would also apreciate any pics of your 450 heli's and how you may of tidied up your wiring .Many thanks in advance. Hicks

    Hi Hicks,

I too will be putting together the guts of my 450 either this week or next.

Firstly I'd say, in my experience, chopping and changing cables on servos is always a bit, unnecessary. They can always be braided and tucked away, they are small after all.

No matter how neat you make the cuts and re-attachment of the plug, you've lost the length (obviously). But my point is, if for some reason you decide to move the components around at a later date, and now you need a longer servo wire... well, that's just as annoying as having a bit of excess in the first place.

Horses for courses, but I'd say. Leave as is

If the wires is excessively long then just fold it neatly on itself and put some heat shrink over it to hold it there. Really wouldn't recommend cutting/shortening wires.

Another trick I use depending on the position, is just take a screw driver and tightly wrap the wire around it... this will make the wire curle like a spring.. takes a lot of length out of it that way and looks neat. Also allows you to remove the servo later on for repair/maintenance which is another thing you should consider before shortening wires.

Double it back on its self with shrinkwrap or braid and hide it if it needs to be neat. You will alter it at some point in the future. Not sure if your still learning and crashing, but if you are, spending time wiring really neatly is a bit of a waste of time as you will be pulling out the servos and swaping gears and rebuilding quite often anyway and disturbing all that neat wiring.

I know what your thinking, we all want neat wiring jobs......but I agree with the previous posts there are easier ways and less chance of destroying a servo.

Photos from my 450 build.. The castle bec had a huge length of wire which although tempting to snip down I decided fold it up incase it ever gets moved to another location or another heli.
