  • £50 quid to spend on servos????

    Hi All,

I am new to this hobby, but spotted this forum and have been reading through the wealth of knowledge!

I have built up a HK450GT v2, and with the help of a great chap from 'Heliflyers' Malvern I have a really smooth, flying model and the tail holds perfectly, so I am happy there. Currently I have a set of SG92R's from Towerpro on the cyclic and feel this is where I could invest some cash! Just like my nitro cars, I am all too aware these things can cost a fortune so I have set a limit of £50 for all 3 servo's. I would really appreciate the benefit of your experience in choosing what to buy!

I've been looking round and thought that maybe SAVOX SH-0257MG or Turnigy TY306's maybe a reasonable choice, but welcome any comments.

    Cheers,

    Mike

£50 quid to spend on servos????

If you don't need digitals then the hitec hs65mgs are pretty robust cyclics. I have savox 0257s on my 450 but they strip gears very easy in comparison to the hitecs

This comes down to a variety of things: your progress and ability, further intentions and how often you crash.
I quite like nice cheap towerpro servos on a flybar model that one is using as a beater heli..cheap enough not to cry when you break one and not worth messing about swapping gear sets etc when dinged..just swap the whole servo.

I'm inclibed to guess that if your just getting to general sports flying then it;s fine as is.. and your next investment might be better aimed at going flybarless when you really would need to think digital servos, flybarless head and controller... simplet repairs on the ehad when crashed and better performance in breezy conditions... but more investment than your £50

The tgy 306g are excellent. I'd stick one on the tail also.

Thanks everyone for you advice so far! I forgot to mention the Hitec 65's I had looked at those too. Gixxer I'm interested to hear how you got on with the Ty306's on paper they seem excellent, but have read some concerns about slop?

On the other hand it is flying well, not with me at the sticks lol, so pgkevet's advice on saving the money for either a head upgrade or crash repairs maybe a good option!

            Food for thought!

Just wrote up a reply to everyone that has to be approved by a moderator ?!? Gixxer did you find any slop, have read conflicting reports on the TY306, they look excellent on paper. Cheers all for you advice.

I've tried loads of servos on my 450s and I now have these on all of them. None of them have failed to date and no problems with slop at all. They're a great servo for the price (IMHO)

Thank you everyone! I have taken Kieranar up on his offer as they are great servos and will leave a few quid towards the 'crash' fund! Again thank you everyone.

                          mike

in terms of a crash kit

                          Feathering shafts
                          main shaft
                          flybar
                          main blades

seeing its a HK model i would also recommend a main gear , in fact i would suggest replacing the stock HK main gear with an Align , i built a HK250GT and it stripped on me withing 3 flight.

Aha yes I was wondering what I should get. I read up on this model before I got it, whilst building it I swapped out the main and tail gear for Align ones, and as I am abit paranoid I swapped out all the 'important' screws for proper ones too. I'll get hold of a main & feathering shaft and a flybar. Long story but I already have a few sets of main and tail blades.

                            Cheers!
