I've never set a gov up but i know how to set the 8J up..

do you just have to assign it to a switch on the tx and rx?

As I understand I can assign it to a switch.

If so, do I just fly in normal mode and then just flick the switch to go into governor mode or do I have to flick the idle up switch aswell?

You can do which ever you prefer. You can have your governor on one switch and your idle up's on a different switch or you can assign both gov and idle ups to a single switch.
You may want to set them on separate switches to start with so you can try out the different headspeed/pitch curve combos and when your happy with the settings put them both on a single switch.

So, this is how my settings look like:

I have assigned switch C (three way switch) to activate and deactivate GOV. My thought is to have the GOV deactivated in pos 1 and have headspeed to 80 & 85% in pos 2 & 3. I have also set the throttle curves in norm, IU1 & IU2 as I want them. So, can I just start in normal mode and then activate GOV through switch C? Also, if deactivating GOV will the helicopter go back to the pos acc to the IU switch?

Looks good and yes if you switch the governor off then the throttle curves take over. With this in mind first I'd switch off the governor completely and set up your model and fly it to get all the pitch and throttle curves to how you want them and when your happy with it turn the governor back on and set your head speeds. This will ensure that if the governor fails for any reason the heli will fly ok with no big surprises.

Just flew a few tanks and everything works fine except for that the RPM drops when I activate the GOV. Really strange.....

                  Any ideas?

Set Gov to condition, so it actives on Idle Up 1 & 2, don't assign it to a separate switch. Leave the throttle curves as straight lines, the Gov menu settings will control it. Set Idle 1 gov as 80& and 2 as 90% and see what it does. Check that when in normal that the light is red, and then switch to Idle 1 & 2 and check it goes green. If it's the other way around, reverse the GOV channel in the radio.

Make sure you follow the setup properly, particularly section 6: http://www.helifleet.com/i/docs/0C/RCE-G600_en.pdf

But shouldn't I have a regular idle up curve just like the manual says if the governor stops working?

Yes you should set regular idle up throttle curves. If you look at paragraph 7 of the Align governor manual it tells you this.
If you don't set them then and the governor fails for any reason then you are left at best flying around in the equivalent of normal and at worst picking up the pieces.
If you've set up them up accurately at the outset then if the governor fails it won't ruin your day and you can carry on flying.

Tried again but the rpm drops when activating the gov. Could be that anything with the calibration? I have normal curve 0-100 during calibration. Anything else that could go wrong durin the calibration?

It might just be that the speed you have it governed at is less that what the throttle is giving you in you normal curve. Do you mean it drops and stays at that rpm, or just drops momentarily?
                            Cheers,

It drops and stay. I have set it to 80 & 85% for channel 7 so this must be higher headspeed then my IU curve (85, 75, 50, 75, 85)

Furthermore the gov have the same low headspeed in both pos 1 & 2 of the gov switch eventhough they are set to 80 & 85%.
