  • dremelling flat spot on scorpion motor shaft..tips?

Im just about to fit my bits to my gaui x3 including my scorpion motor, which doesnt have a flat spot on shaft.
I know you need to grind a flat spot onto it first to get the motor pinon to tighten down. Im just looking for some tips to make it easier:-). Im thinking the shavings from the grinding will stick to the motor magnets, so put a bag or something around the Motor can? Dry fit the motor to see where the correct height is for correct gear mesh.
    any more?:-)

Poke the shaft through a plastic bag, ie, pierce the bag with the shaft, then tape around the shaft.

There should then be no way for filings to get into the motor.

You can do as you say to mark the position of the grub screw.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

If the sparks fly away from the motor it shouldn't be a problem. But I like the idea with the plastic bag.

What motor did you go for? Have an x3 waiting to be built but need to figure out what to go in it first. Was looking at the 1700 or 1800kv align motors.

A latex glove with a pin hole in it does a great job too

You need to mark the shaft some how, the grub screw doesn't mark it much. I used a snapped off cocktail stick with sharpie ink on it.

If it has two grub screws you only make flat spot. The second one just screws onto the shaft.
