  • Motor timing with YEP esc?????

I am setting up my Logo 400se with a YEP 100a esc and Scorpion HK 3226 - 1400kv motor

Now i've already read that the YEP/YGE motor timing should be set at 18deg even though the motor spec is 5deg,
However i am getting a little issue when setting up Gov store, With the motor timing at 18deg, PWM at 8khz when the motor almost reaches full rpm it starts bucking/stuttering and wont reach full rpm.
I have now tried it with the timing at 24deg, PWM 8khz and it all seems to work good, silky smooth spool up, no stuttering and i get the little kick to say gov has been stored, But am i ok to run this motor on 24deg timing?

    Esc set up is:

    Timing - 24deg
    Brake - Off
Cut off type - Slow Down - Lipo
    Cut off volts - 3.1
    Cells - 6

Act free/Act gov - Freew - On, Gov - Store
    P Gain - 0.9
    I Gain - 0.05
Start up speed - Heli Mid
    PWM - 8khz
    Start up power - 2%

Have you tried the timing at 5 Nick? I was told that all scorpion motors should use 5 timing and 8 pwm.

Re: Motor timing with YEP esc?????

Yeah tried all timing range, it gets worse the lower the timing, I have read that the YEP/YGE timing ratings are different to other esc's

Scorpion is 5 timing and 8 pwm , but mr mel says out runners motors are 18degree on some esc setup.

There's a formula to calculate the PWM

          It's the motor KV x Volts x motor poles / 20

          So with this motor, it's 1400(KV) X 22.2(volts) X 10 (poles) / 20 = 15,540

That's a setting of either 14kHz or 16kHz on the YEP programming card, and I'd try the timing at about 10 or 12 degrees (but up to 18 should be OK)

I know Scorpion's figures are totally different but I've used this calculation on all my electric helis, including ones with Scorpion motors, and it works perfectly.

Ok so after a lot of testing at the field today, i've finally got it working spot on, Ended up with motor timing @ 18deg and the PWM @ 12khz
