  • Vertical Play in 600mx motor - possible problem? Vbar Governor input glitches

Been looking over the vbar logs since flying on weds and noticed I've now got a lot of "governor input glitches" - so had a look at the motor and noticed there seems to be some vertical play in it (See video)?

The outer can moves up & down and so does the pinion.. the mounting plate of the motor is well fixed to the motor mount so the motor itself isn't moving.. but the can and shaft are though?

    Any opinions?

    Thanks
    Matt

You have a shot bearing mate, the upper one.

Another thing that came in my mind. Take the motor apart and check the shaft if it got 'eaten' at the point where it contacts the bearing.

Thanks for that mate.. had a feeling it was the bearing but needed check.. so how long do you think i can get away with it as i want go flyinglater! Also what bearings you recommend for high performance? Cba keep changing bearings

Mate, i really dont know how long it will last. it is just a matter of time. This also happened on my 500MX and a teeth broken off from the pinion.
You should have a spare heli!

I really like Boca bearings for high performance. Only downside is that you have to order from abroad.. Here's the link direct to align motor bearings.

possible, not so sure its a bearing , if u got side play then a bearing ,not had that motor ,but worth investigating see if their is a grub screw at the top or bottom of the motor ,holding it together just may be ones a little loose slipped on the shaft , seen same thing on kony /scorp before,

Jim, at the video there is side play.

                Cheers.

Interesting, i've been searching the forum for a similar issue with my 450MX motor on my 450 Pro. I recently noticed vertical play in the silver housing of about 1mm or so and the pinion does move slightly. I wasn't sure if it was an issue or if it was like this from new which i'm sure it was.
I would be interested to know if anyone with a similar Align MX Motor has No play whatsoever?
The only difference with mine is that the play is less than on your 600MX in the video and there is NO side to side play in mine, so does that mean my bearings could be ok but the shaft needs to be reseated tighter? There are no screws on the 450MX to take it apart and check easily, i believe it's supposed to be self maintaining. Also to note that the motor is actually running fine on mine, no overheating or weird noises or loss of power or vibes etc... It's just this little vertical play that is bothering me, should it be?

Dogcow - From new most of the align motors have a tiny bit of vertical play which is fine - the problem with mine is that vertical play has increased and their is some very slight sideways movement on the shaft.. so needs new bearings..

BUT, at the moment I've got bigger problems: http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/main-d...ml#post1037533

not good, I even done both frames before, by the front servo. I think plastic horns are the way forward. Takes some of energy out before getting to servos.

Yeah mate just finished a basic list of stuff i need... if the frames had smashed and the head was worse off it would have been a complete rekit.. Annoying really!

Yeah will be switching to plastic servo arms.. may help save the gears as they arn't cheap on the torq servos!

A little update, replaced both bearings with new ones from rcbearings (85p each) and after some faffing about managed to get the motor back together. There is almost no play at all now its much better/tighter.
Something worth noting is the tolerance is so small that if a bearing was to fail or even half fail your motor could do some damage to itself so i'd say don't use it with bearings that are failing.. the can only has to move a tiny bit one way and it will catch the stator!
                              Cheera guys :-)
