  • Motor rewind for 10S to 12S conversion

There have not been any rewind threads here so here is one!
I wanted to convert my Logo 600SE to 12S for a while now. I had rewound a 5020 to YY 1.40mm at 520Kv which was no good for 12S.
I decided to rewind to Wye termination and use the thickest wire possible. I went with 1.90mm wire which as you can see in the pics is not the thickest that could be used. A 2.0mm would fit but I am not sure of the gains...the core is probably already saturating??

The spec of the motor now is 445Kv and the copper increase compared to stock is +21% and the idle current is 2A. Had 2 flights with it and, as expected, it is a beast. It's really smooth too and temps stay below 50*C.
    Hope you enjoy the pics!

    Termination trials.

Nice neat job on the re-wind! Also nice job on the marking on the top of the motor, what did you use to do that?

But i'm wondering why your 520kV motor couldn't have been used with 12S if you geared to suit? For sure 520 kV isn't too high for 12S, there are plenty of 12S motor with higher kV's than that.

Thanks! You are right. I could use the 520Kv version, run a 11T pinion and lower throttle. But even with 11T pinion a 520Kv would have the ESC running at about 55% to get just over 1800RPM. As you probably know ESCs have a hard time with low partial load. With the 445Kv I get 68% for the same RPM.
At the end of the day it comes down to what ESC you have, what rotor speed you are running and how well you want to match gearing-PWM-RPM and the headroom for your gov.

I didn't realise that the 600se had such a small main gear (106t).. I now see why you need a low kV wind for running 12S, nice work all round!

So how did you do that marking on the motor, it looks like it's factory applied.

It's just a laser printer transparent sticker ;-)
